iPod Video Is The Cats Axx

Finally got the new iPod up and running in the video and photo department. The video quality is unbelievable. I downloaded a bunch of in-car video laps from last year and they're great. 30GB iPod should be able to hold about 100 laps, 1000 pictures and a couple thousand songs. Doesn't get much better than that. Plus my wife doesn't think it's a car expense expense so she' not giving me any grief.

My wife is loving watching TV on hers.

I helped a buddy hack in complete movies on his 30 gig. Painful, but done.

What was painful about it?

Ripping TV episodes from DVD has been easy - time-consuming, but I just queue up the episodes and let the computer work at it.

It's time consuming, and the program we used is loaded with bugs so the time remaining to complete indicator is off by say, an hour.

I did a 30 minute show and it was fairly easy (less than 15 minutes), but an entire 2 hr. DVD was a PITA.

You must be talking about Videora. Same issue here, but I had another problem as well. I ripped a friend's DVD, converted it and uploaded it to my brother's iPod before a long flight to Europe. Unfortunately, it picked the wrong audio track and was in French. I speak French fluently, but watching Clint Eastwood in French just isn't right. Fortunately, I had downloaded several TV episodes and that kept me busy.

That iPod is really awesome though.

For Mac I like "Handbrake" for ripping DVDs to iTunes.

Not sure what works with PCs.

I have not uploaded any DVD's yet, but I'll be on that this weekend. I'd love to get an old Seinfeld season to upload.

Exactly. It's awful, but effective. V.90 is what we're using.

Magic DVD copier from DVD to computer. Then use DVD shrink 3.2 to make it into one file. Then videora to convert to mpeg4. Then into itunes and onto the iPod, total time about 2 hours

It'll be great when TiVo releases the export to iTunes feature. Record Seinfeld on TiVo, transfer over wireless or wired network to iTunes on your PC/Mac, then upload to iPod.

Right how I'm putting Northern Exposure season 3 on the iPod.
