I think I need the A-Team
So Tuesday night I hear a terrific crash in my house at about 2:am. Suitably armed with a fireplace poker and no pants, I slink around the house, upstairs then slowly down. Find....nothing. Alarm still on, no zones flashing, wife safe but freaked, daughter oblivious and sleeping, P-Car safe...WTF? Go back to bed.
In the morning my wife notices the leather couch is showered with drywall dust. She looks above the TV to find a large hole in the wall. The hole is about the size of a AA battery with a 4" radius of drywall paper torn away. We go outside and find a 1/2" entry hole in the cedar siding that lines up with the hole in the drywall. Called the cops and they "rush" over about 3 hours later and blithely declare it a bullet hole! Some MFer shot my house. I live in a quiet, middle income, mostly retired neighborhood and have met most. Been robbed twice and now this. Seems totally random and who's to say if we move the next neighborhood will be safer? My house is paid off but we would have to get a mortgage to move to a nicer neighborhood. I guess alive and in debt is better than dead and debt free.... I'm pissed. I can't imagine how I would have felt if someone in my family had been hit. So what's next? Fortify the house? Kevlar PJ's for my daughter? Move? What would you do? |
Robbed TWICE and now have a SHOT house....UMMMMM
Realize CRIME is EVERYWHERE no matter where you go....the incidence of it maybe lower in other neighborhoods thats all. U can get proactive and start a Neighborhood Watch to try and save your hood...or you can bail...and find a hood that has a lower incidence of crime... In the USA..Mortgage Interest is deductible from your Income Taxes...so when your in your 30's having a Mortgage is not a bad thing..and if your in a high enough income bracket its preferable. Its just what percentage of income is used for debt payment...also a home in most cases is an appreciating asset over time. so your paying of interest is not wasted. Now if U said you wanted a NEW CAR and were going into debt I would say Fk U don't do it...but a home is different. |
I thought guns were illegal in Canada?

Sure glad that the cops took all the guns up there. Plug that hole with the poker, buy another one and pray, a lot.
Three hours for the cops to come and no way to defend yourself... your post just made it to my history box on why I am a NRA lifetime member and we never should give up our weapons in this country. JoeA |
What you need is this:
http://www.stormrooms.dupont.com/solution.html "The StormRoom™ with Kevlar® uses the same material found in bullet-resistant vests that help protect the police and military forces. This storm shelter is the newest innovation from DuPont, a company known for bringing the world miracles of science" It's Kevlar for your walls. We are planning to use this material to shore up a lab for protection of the control room. |

Gun ownership is legal however all firearms have to be registered and kept unloaded in a lock box separate from your ammo. I think we're gonna move. Joe, not sure what easy access to a gun would have done in this instance. Shot seemed random. I haven't ticked anyone off lately.

Where did the bullet go? Did the police bother looking for it?
|
Get the hell out! Two robberies, then this? I thought Canada was supposed to be a warmer, fuzzier USA?

Yikes! What area of Vancouver? Having this happen would scare the bejesus out of me.

If you are broken into once, it may be random.
If you are broken into twice, you are for some reason, an easy target. Find out what makes your place attractive to the bad guys, and change it. |
You were Robbed twice in your home? Do you mean buglarized or robbed like you were there when the BG came in?
I'd move. alf |
Agree with Alf, there is something going on and wonder who has you in their sights. Local kids or druggies?
Time for motion sensor lights all around the house as well as a very loud alarm system AND a big dog. The police sure did not respond in good time so if you are going to stay you have to do their job for them and protect your family. JoeA |
