60 day jail sentence - for rape.

Not to put you guys in a bad mood on a Friday... But this is sick:

Burlington, Vermont -- January 4, 2005

There was outrage Wednesday when a Vermont judge handed out a 60-day jail sentence to a man who raped a little girl many, many times over a four-year span starting when she was seven.

The judge said he no longer believes in punishment and is more concerned about rehabilitation.

Prosecutors argued that confessed child-rapist Mark Hulett, 34, of Williston deserved at least eight years behind bars for repeatedly raping a littler girl countless times starting when she was seven.

But Judge Edward Cashman disagreed explaining that he no longer believes that punishment works.

"The one message I want to get through is that anger doesn't solve anything. It just corrodes your soul," said Judge Edward Cashman speaking to a packed Burlington courtroom. Most of the on-lookers were related to a young girl who was repeatedly raped by Mark Hulett who was in court to be sentenced.

The sex abuse started when the girl was seven and ended when she was ten. Prosecutors were seeking a sentence of eight to twenty years in prison, in part, as punishment.

And how is this jackass still a judge? Regardless of what his opinions are, they're not the law. I think crap like this should be criminal, maybe if they didn't give judges so much leeway our legal system wouldn't be such a joke.

I give him credit for being an honest liberal. That's what they believe and it's refreshing to hear one come clean. It makes effective debate more likely.

Let's hope this judge will be obliged to change careers soon. Has he heard of the concept of punishment? Does the purp have to do the same thing to the next little girl he meets before he gets a real judge?

I have two daughters, 4 and 9. This guy should be sent away for 40 years, and damn the rehab. If he repeats this offfense, and the odds are he will, the judge should be his roommate.

Well said. If they stood by their beliefs they would have less followers.

I agree with you Charlie, rehab is the last thing on my mind. Let the animal rot in a cell, that's what he deserves.

You know what would put an end to this stupidity? Hold the judge responsible when the perp gets caught doing this again. He'd change his opinions in a hurry I bet.

Who said he was a liberal? Sounds like he's clean off his rocker - the hallmark of a conservative.

How about a wager? $100???? ( and no I havn't checked)

I'll take some action to thom.

I wonder what sentence the judge would give the father of the rape victim if he shot the rapist in the face? I'd guess 90 days which sounds like a deal!

I think we should give out 1 year inprisionment and $1000.00 fines for parking tickets.

And if you should ever park all crooked or something again then we just kill you.

onewhippedpuppy 01-06-2006 07:22 AM

Took you long enough to jump in with some stupid liberal comment. What if it were your daughter? Would you still take the same stance? People that do stuff like this are not right in the head, and they will do it again. Hopefully you don't ever have this shown to you the hard way.

Jims5543 01-06-2006 07:24 AM

So, 61 days from now, how long do you think this guy will live being out on the street? The judge just served this clown a death penalty and doesn't even know it.

Relax dude I was jokeing....

were it me, the cops would have never even been called.

I would have just hid the body really, really, really good.
I dunno maybe one of those tree chipper's or something.

gaijindabe 01-06-2006 07:26 AM

This is how we got capitol punishment and minimum sentence laws. Apparently for good reason...

60 days is jail not prison. Big difference. He will be in with drunks and traffic vilolators.

If only the world was that perfect. Guaranteed the rapist is back in the news in a few years. There is no justice in the world anymore. Only excuses.

Sorry, I'm too used to fighting with you on political threads. At least we agree on something.......

Maybe 60 days in jail will be enough, especially if the GP finds out how short his sentience is.

I agree no justice in the world anymore. This dood gets 60 days for a quite vicious crime. But, the other dood with a baggy of pot gets 60 years. I cannot understand it which is why I just stopped trying.

Laneco 01-06-2006 07:32 AM

60 days huh? That will put him in local lockup with TV and a turnstile door to freedom. Probably actually serve just a few weeks because he'll be released due to overcrowding...

At some point, regardless of whether you think rehab is effective (its not for this type of deviant), we need to look at protecting society FROM this person by removing this person from society!

In other words, for all our sakes, lock him up. Oh, and castrate him. But that's just the foul tempered woman in me coming out...
