Lots of Race Cars! Photos

I attended the annual VARA (vintage auto racing asso) BOD meeeting and elections today. These are Tom Malloys personal collection. Yes he races most of these , and yes he knows what he is doing.

My favorites are the orange Mclaren and thr red Ford Mk IV
The Formula 5000 light blue eagle is cool too, not too mention to the right of the eagle is a Lola CanAm car minus the bodywork...........Ah what the hell I loved them all!!

I believe it was 2.1L and single turbo. A derivative of that motor was used in later years for some Pikes Peak hillclimb projects with success. As many know, TRD was in Gardena and Gurney's All American Racers shop was in Costa Mesa, not far from South Coast Plaza.

Ticking time bomb when it was first developed (they wouldn't even attempt Daytona knowing it would only last a couple of hours at best), but once they got the reliability sorted the car was deadly. Of course, all the players in GTP by that time were gone.

Would love to see the Eagle run again though!

Thanks for the images Mark, btw I got your email a couple of weeks ago and would like to hook up with you soon at your casa to check out your car.

Ralph

Is Tom Malloys the owner or part owner of Trench Shoring in Lake Forest, Ca.?

If it is I use to live right near there and they would buy parts from the company I use to work for.

Nice pics. Thanks for posting.

I believe Tom Malloy is running that car with VARA in March, he flew in from Daytona just to open his shop for our meeting
Let me know when you are coming over, I should be around next weekend

The orange closed Mclaren is a M6B GT...one of only two known to exist (as I recall). Mclaren wanted to go into small scale production, perhaps with Trojan who built their customer Can-Am racing cars.

I saw one of these ( maybe this one) at a Watkins Glen vintage event maybe 10 years ago...and one was featured in a street-driven article in Road & Track many years ago...in the 70's I believe. Even saw it "for sale" in the R&T ad one time for $15000.....arggh !

I bought the Road and Track magazine for the owner on Ebay...
and the car is now on sale again and maybe at Barrett and jackson !
and the red is the the other closed model,

Ray
