Gender selection for human offspring
OK, here is what I think is a new OT forum topic.
We currently have one wonderful child, a 4 1/2 year old boy (conceived 'naturally'), and have pretty much decided to try for a second and call it a family. If #2 never happens then we're certainly OK with that too. My wife REALLY wants a girl. I must say I am significantly less opinionated about the gender of #2, but since 2 kids is our plan -- as much as anyone can plan such things -- 1 boy and 1 girl seems 'ideal', balanced, yin/yang, etc... SO... there is this relatively new process that essentially involves 'spinning' a semen sample to separate sperm by gender. One of the pioneers in this area is MicroSort www.microsort.com Anybody done this kind of thing, or even explored or contemplated it? Personally I don't have a moral conflict with the process, but undoubtedly opinions will vary widely on that aspect as well. I am not well-versed in the scientific aspects either (I'm a 'puter geek type) but my wife is an MD and so far thinks it looks like a sound process. It is not exactly cheap, and we are rapidly approaching the big 4-0 which I believe is an age cut-off point for the main firms doing this right now. So, we need to make a decision Real Soon Now to...ahem...begin conventional baby making procedures, or go ahead and try this out. Discussion, pros/cons, BTDT stories, etc., welcome...
