Pike's Peak hill climb changes
I saw a show on mountain roads last night, and they included the Pike's Peak road. They mentioned that the road will be paved to the top by 2007. So much for rally car racing there. And after 90 years of racing.
The reason they are paving it is for environmental concerns. Seems the gravel and dirt gets in streams and causes too much siltation. I suppose a road race on pavement will still be interesting, although just not the same.

I saw that show too. Once it is paved, the race is going to be more dangerous. Higher speeds, more crashes, more going off the road. When that happens, someone will certainly close it down.
