Project Evil e30: Front mounted the intercooler
Finally put the intercooler where it should have went in the first place. Exuse the different colored couplers. The place I got the blue ones from were out of stock so I found these for about a quater of the price. We'll see if they hold up.

Is that I/C up for the task? It looks a tad small to me then again I am used to huge I/C's designed to attempt to cool a rotary turbo.
Thats going to be a fun car. |
Wow, you're really tearing away at this project.
Could you share your new coupler source? |
My turbo is so small that I think a huge intercooler would actually hurt performance due to the pressure loss.
I got the silicon couplers from a hydralics, plumbing, and pnuematic shop down the street from my office. $8 a piece instead of $30. I went in there for some vaccum pieces and saw them. I have no idea what they are used for. |
Trying to see the Turbo in those pics it looks like a T-03 of some sort. Yes?
Your right, that I/C will probably be plenty if not too much for that little snail. When I switched from my hybrid T-04 / T-03 setup with a top mount to a true HKS T-04E and huge front mount on my RX-7 I noticed about 500 more RPM's of lag. Since your car is a N/A to begine with hopefully the lag will be unnoticable. |
The plumbing and routing look much cleaner and more efficient than the last iteration you had. Keep up the great work!

Thanks kasien. I plan to take all the couplers out eventually and use welded stainless steel bends. |
Very cool Terry!
(Hey, I sent you an E30tech PM about that airdam) |
Audi 5000 intercooler? Yeah, a bit small but probably OK. If you start boosting quite a bit (say 14+ psi) the end tanks have a tendancy of coming apart. Some big worm clamps from Home Depot can help to prevent this.
Oh, and you did a thorough job of cleaning any old old etc out of the intercooler beforing mounting it I hope. Sometimes they get really gummed up. |

It was spotless when I bought it. Then I had some oil trouble so the engine bay got drenched. Now the cooler looks like crap. Thanks for the tip though. |
