What is Handgun Control, Inc. howling about...?
This is Alito's dissenting opinion in U.S. v. Rybar:

HCI, or as they now prefer, The Brady Center, wants nothing more than illegal federal control over firearms. If they have to shoehorn it into some stretch of interstate commerce, then so be it. They are scared to death of men like Alito that clearly see the limits of federal power and would like to hold the line on such. Their job becomes very much more difficult in some respects when issues like this must be resolved at the state level. It's funny how they work, though - at times chipping away at the foundation of gun rights on the local level; at times looking for the federal "home run". Alito runs against the interpretation that suits their needs. Right wrong or indifferent, if his opinion runs against theirs, he becomes a target. They don't care if their agenda is legal or not, and anyone shouting "the emperor has no clothes" regarding a long-standing missapplication of federal power is going to get hammered.

And wasnt it Sarah Brady who was found buying a a weapon illegally recently? Talk about two faced. She wants one set of laws for everyone else, and none for her.
<<< A minor scandal of sorts occurred after, writing in her book, Sarah Brady recounted that she had purchased a Remington .30-06 rifle with a scope and safety lock at a Lewes, Delaware gun shop, for her son, James Scott Brady, Jr., "as a Christmas present" in 2000. According to Delaware Justice Department spokeswoman Lori Sitler, this purchase was apparently a "straw purchase". Under the gun laws, her son, as the intended recipient of the weapon, should have undergone the required background checks, although he has no criminal record. According to a quote in the New York Times, "We hope that it's innocuous and there's been no laws violated," said James Jay Baker, chief lobbyist for the National Rifle Association. "It's obviously interesting that Sarah would be purchasing firearms of any kind for anybody, given her championing of restrictive guns laws for everyone." Ms. Brady was not indicted by any grand jury, state or federal, in the incident.>>> http://www.answers.com/topic/sarah-brady |
