Savor the High Life

A guilty pleasure while on the road. The fam is into sushi and my wife prefers Coors Lite. But while on the road, a man must satisfy his cravings!

Savor the high life...all you can eat sushi and a 6 of High Life...

So what is your guilty pleasure while on the road? Keep it clean! This is a family show.

A stretch of Interstate with no traffic (especially no truckers), smooth pavement, and a tailwind. The exhaust note singing, tires warm enough to smooth out, a smile from the blonde fashion model you picked up hitchiking (Ok, I can dream a little here), and a full tank of reasonably-priced gas.

I fly to Atlanta once a week--the restaurant/room service at the hotel is Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. So...I'd have to say really good steaks.
Christian.

And Maker's.

I'm with ya on the sushi. But Miller High Life is pretty sad.

Why not a Sapporo if you're at a Japanese place and like lighter beer?

Minibar.
Nothing like putting back a $7 shot of Jim Beam and an $8 handful of nuts after a long day of travel.

Smith and Wollenskys Las Vegas

Grey Goose martini with three big olives
Heirloom tomato salad
Cajun bone-in rib eye steak with a nice bottle of cabernet.

Eeewwww... I have dim and grim memories of some kind of "Kamikaze" beverage consumed with sushi, both in mass quantities, which was a large Sapporo or Kirin into which a shot of sake was plunged and then tossed back as quickly as possible.

Let's just say this led to subsequent projectile emission of said sushi, beer and sake in apartment of 'friend' that inspired these evening activies. It was ugly, from what I remember, which is not much.

These days, I do enjoy sushi every so often but stick to either sake, or beer, but not both...

Anyways, when on the road solo I don't typically do much different from when at home...try to eat well, maybe a cocktail or glass (or 2 or 3) of wine, and maybe a cigar if it's been an especially good day.

I'm not precisely sure, but I think my 'record' for a solo meal cost on a biz trip stands around $140-ish. When I'm billing clients, I usually need to keep it substantially lower depending on their per-diem rates. How do you guys deal with that aspect and/or 'favorably depict' the charges? Admittedly I've done the 'oh yeah, I took the customer out' story before.

I married that blonde and while it was fun for a while, she was high maintenance! Remember paying .19.9c for a gallon of gas? I do and sure miss it. Course I miss the 1950 Merc I was putting it in as well!

Hey, in Paris now, back to London tomorrow. You should have taken that trip!

Single malt scotch, rib eye steak and a good cabernet. It beats a hot tub and massage.

Lagavulin, Filet Mignon and some chewy red wine if in the US/Europe.

But i find myself in Japan once a month. There it is a great bowl of Ramen, or Sushi at the fish market or Udon down the street from the hotel, teppanyaki in Roppongi and the list goes on. This place is a food paradise, i have not had a bad meal here yet.

I escaped many a Manhattan gridlock in that marvelous place. Maybe it's time I make a sentimental pilgrimage...

That brings back memories! Glad it was years ago...

Going out for a nice steak tonight and should be able to find a nice bottle of red to share with the crew. At least they have good wine here!
