South Orange County You've been warned ?

I don't know if this is a hoax or not, but I thought I would share.

"For those of us who like to drive fast.....

California Highway Patrol will launch a 30-day speeding ticket frenzy in
South Orange County starting January 25, 2006. The state estimates that
22 million dollars will be generated in speeding tickets. 3 million will
go to pay California Highway Patrol officer overtime. There will be 90
California Highway Patrol officers on duty at all times patrolling the 7
freeways. They are the following: 73, 55, 133, 241, 57, 5, 605
freeways.

Now 7 mph above the limit can justify a ticket and every California
Highway Patrol officers is supposed to pull a car over and write a ticket
every 10 minutes.

They have issued 50 brand new unmarked Crown Victoria cruisers and they
are bringing all their part timers on full time. If you live or work in
South Orange County you must take one of their freeways. It's up to you
how fast you are going when they do. This is a test by the CHP to raise
the extra funds for the State of California. The wealthy folks of South
Orange County can afford this new tax. The California State Legislators
dreamed up this law to help close the budget gap or something like that.
I was told KICU-FM confirmed all of this. So be safe and don't forget
speeding tickets are on you.

You've been warned."

I lived in HB for 8 years, nice city to live in. But not $2,000 more per month nice. I used to drive PCH once a week at dusk, there is nothing like it.

Same info was sent out by PCA-Orange County Region so possibly true.
Traffic is not as bad as LA has gotten and OC has some great roads: Ortega, PCH from Dana Point to Newport, etc. Weekends at Crystal Cove, with Donut guys in Costa Mesa, muscle cars in Monarch Beach, etc, etc.

I knew it was a fake to begin with, because ticket quotas are highly illegal. It says that somewhere in the DMV website.

Part timers

One tip off to the hoax is the part about bringing out their "part time guys" No such thing in the CHP. It is also illegal to use unmarked cars for primarily traffic enforcement in CA.

How can you speed in LA when you're stuck in traffic all the time? Down the shoulder maybe?

We in the SOCG do not speed, we very politely drive a few miles over the limit to enhance the flow of traffic.

Re: South Orange County You've been warned ?

Completely BOGUS from the start! New tax/ new law? I hate to break it to you guys, but you can get a speeding ticket for going under the posted speed limit. A little thing called "safe speed," that can be drastically altered by weather and visibility. It's entirely the officer's discretion!

50 new Cruiser's??? Not in the budget my friends... Trust me when I tell you, as I'm a State Employee....

Beau... Hate to break it to you, legal or not, quota's exist... They don't refer to them as that, but they do exist.... Especially for CHP, citations are a measure of whether you are working or not. I knew of guys that used to specialize in pulling over several cars at a time on the highway.... Numbers are what they're looking for with the guys that want to promote... Sad but true!

It's been my experience in the last several years, that the South OC CHiPpies are the laziest of the lot... By that , I mean that these lops prefer to use radar on a 6 lane wide freeway vs. actually pacing someone the old fashioned way. Best defense if you choose to run a little hot, is buy yourself a Valentine1!!

I lived in Irvine for 19 years. Miss the beach, miss the weather. But I don't miss the crowds.

Speeding - The stretch of I-5 south through San Clemente to Pendleton is like the fricking Autobahn. I've never been passed by more latte-sipping, SUV-driving, cell phone-talking, pilates-firm, soccer moms...

Uh, I will confirm that. From 10:00 AM to about 3:00 PM the average speed on OC freeways is about 85. The average speed at night seems to be about 85 to 95 at night! No kidding.

Can't imagine what that must've been like in the '50s and '60s.
