It was about the watches when I made it. ParaOrdnance P12 with full tactical tuning by Cylinder & Slide.

I had a ParaOrdnance P-12. I had that gun so decked out, guide rod, Robar NP3, Trijicon night sights, etc. Great gun, but others beckoned and I traded it.

Maybe if you figured out where to put the bullets she wouldn't need one of these in her bedside table. :p

Ruger Super Blackhawk 7" Stainless 44mag. My wife calls me "Dirty Terry", but I think that was even before I bought the gun. :)

I've had it for around 20 years and it was used when I bought it. It came with Rosewood grips, but those are more form than function. I think the hammer put a dent in my wrist on the first recoil. I quickly installed Pachmyer grips.

I think there's spiderwebs and dust in the barrel. It hasn't seen action in about 10 years. Took me a while to find the damn thing. It resided under the bed for a decade, guess the wife thought the hall closet was better.

Might wanna unload that thing before taking photos from the loud end. Nice gun, by the way. I've got several Blackhawks, Super Blackhawks, Old Armies and Single Sixes from Ruger, a few Peacemakers, and some late '70's issue Interarms Virginian Dragoons (only handguns manufactured in a Southern state since the War of Northern Aggression). Love those single actions. Funny, I tried Pachmyers on one of mine and went right back to the rosewood. Personal preference, but the big rubber grips always felt like the wrong end of a baseball bat in my hands.

Hello Jeff, Sounds like you have a nice collection of Rugers. Is there a way I can trace my s/n and find out age or info? My s/n is 85-15xxx. Would that indicate 1985?

Had a friend who was making some hot loads for me and the noise was amazing. When my wife and I used to shoot it at the local indoor range, we would sometimes draw a crowd to see what we were firing.

And thanks for the concern, but only the camera lens saw the loud end of the gun. Digital cameras allow us to view the subject through the LCD screen so our faces don't to be near the camera anymore. ;)

Try 180 gr. in a .44 mag. You won't believe the noise!

Jeff Higgins 01-24-2006 08:03 AM

Terry, Ruger will tell you. They are pretty good about that. Yours is at least as new as 1972. It is a "two screw" with the transfer bar safety introduced that year, as opposed to the old "three screw" with the old Colt style lockwork. That, and being stainless makes it newer than that anyway. I'm not sure when Ruger came out with the first stainless Super Blackhawks; probably some time in the late '70's.

These things are definitley obnoxiously loud. I've done a great deal of hunting with mine, which means shooting them at least once without ear protection. My .44 mag and .45 Colt heavy loads each launch a 300 grain hard-cast bullet at just over 1200 fps from 4 3/4" and 6" barrels. Talk about loud... not so bad at the range, where I wear soft plugs inside of ear muffs, but on a still morning out in the woods... holy crap. I think one shot probably does some permanent damage. My left ear (the forward one when shooting) has shown some hearing loss over the years. Rifles generally won't do it when shot while hunting, but these damn things...

Rick Lee 01-24-2006 08:07 AM

I can't believe these things DON'T cause permanent hearing loss without ear protection. I can't imagine hunting with one. Ditto for rifles. They are LOUD!
