Are you guys watching the Saturday B-J Auction??
The money is freaking flowing. Money is losing all sense of value. If a car were to go for $100K right now, I'd view it as a "beater". So many cars up in the $200 and $300K price range.......
What do these guys do for a living? I'm not in the poorhouse, but gee whiz, these guys are on another level! A 1957 Chrysler Imperial that was associated with Howard Hughes, his company purchased it-for $350K??? The heavy metal is still to come.

Just another conspicuous consumption festival like MTV cribs... it's more about being seen on TV with large piles of money than selling cars.
Some cool cars on there but I can only stand it in small doses. I would much rather watch Goodwood or "victory by design" people actually driving cool cars. Speedovision sucks

No Sh&T!
I just told my wife, I could start a whole collection for $2 mil. Think about it: CGT $500,000 New GT3: $130,000 Ferrari Daytona Spider: $500,000 993TT: $70,000 '68 Nova SS: $40,000 Aston Martin DB7: $175,000 Rough numbers, give or take, just a list off the top of my head. And I'd still have enought left over to buy my wife a new Bentley or something. WTF, these guys in the Porn production business or something?

What does Barrett-Jackson do the rest of the year? Seriously! I never hear about them or see this on the rest of the year.
Funny how this same thread comes up here every year....we ***** about the prices stuff sells for and watch it anyway.

Yup, I admit that I got sucked in again this year ... it was like watching an ATM machine on steriods.
Steve - with their 8% commission on each sale they take the rest of the year off

Make that 8% from seller AND 8% from buyer-total of 16%. Plus bidder registrations, concessions, vendor fees, TV rights, etc, etc. Not a bad business they've built there!

Now you know why your boss can't afford to give you and your fellow employees a raise. Millionaires are a dime a dozen there.

I can't stand watching the whole thing. I suspect most of these buyers will end up polishing and primping their purchases. That's why most of them have such low miles. Well, someone's gotta preserve them for the next BJ auction.
I thought the "bargain" car among the $300K Chevies/Corvettes and Fords was the custom, one-off GT car made for some Saudi shiek. 1000 HP blown MB V8, Hewland gearbox and custom, looked-like CF chassis and body from some Euro tuner. Advertised as costing the seller 2.2M to have built. It sold for a measely $225K. The '67 GT-40 only went for $250K or so. Next up was an ex-Elvis Buick limo. It went for $400+K. I wasn't following the tractor bids.BTW, if it's a trickle down economy, I'm down here. Sherwood |
