why do sick people insist on coming to work?

there are two of them here. both are complaining of aches and sore throat. WTF?! i asked both why they didnt take time off, and i swear both responses are, "i get bored at home".

my freak self has washed my hands 10 times and it is only 9:15! arrrrggghhh!

TerryH 01-24-2006 09:28 AM

Don't rub your eyes or pick your nose and teeth and you'll probably be okay without washing your hands every 5 minutes. At least they aren't coughing phlegm balls at you.

BlueSkyJaunte 01-24-2006 09:37 AM

I send 'em home. It's like they're trying to be heroes or something. Or as if this office will collapse around our ears if they don't show up for a day or two.

Bastards.

pbs911 01-24-2006 09:43 AM

Tell your boss your going home because these individuals create an unsafe work enrivonment.

Call Homeland Security...sounds like a bioweapon to me.

Moses 01-24-2006 10:23 AM

Suck it up, man. It's not like they have Ebola! I'm around sick people all day every day. They cough, sputter, puke and produce the nastiest looking crap from their throats.

I haven't had a cold in 15 years.

Heh, I never get sick until I take some time off!! I see people all day who are sick but never come down with anything until I want to play golf or something...it's pretty annoying.

That's why you get paid the big bucks!

I, on the other hand, have $13.82 left at the end of the year.

We have miscalculated your ability to pay. Your premiums should be at least $1/month higher.

That's exactly how I am. I've used a grand total of 1 sick day (2 half-days) in the 5½ years I've been on the job. I always seem to get sick on weekends, or after 5 pm. I'm always better the next day...:(

NICKG 01-24-2006 12:08 PM

i use every sick/personal day i get. reason? I either use em' or lose em'. but the real truth is that i busted my butt, never called in sick, wasn't ever late, did my job as best as i could and gave everything to it...what did it get me? laid off...that's what. I went the extra miles and stayed late and didn't complain and it never paid for me. happened more than one time ...wtf? now i get sick...i'm out, i have a pain, i'm out. I have a cold now and have gone to work every day, but that is only because I carpool and I am the driver this month. it just doesn't pay to be so company that you forget that they will dump you in an instant imho

dd74 01-24-2006 12:15 PM

Half my office freaked out when one of the workers showed up with pink eye. The person was asked, "Why'd you come in? Do you know how contagious pink eye is?" He said: "I've been stuck inside all weekend and felt vulnerable and alone. Now I'm being made to feel like a pariah."

Gracious!

legion 01-24-2006 12:21 PM

I can roll over sick days indefinitely (and up to 90 vacation days a year). The number of sick days I get goes up every year. I think I have something like 230 sick days right now.

red-beard 01-24-2006 02:43 PM

Take next year off.

bell 01-24-2006 03:16 PM

when my stepmom retired from the job she had for 25 years she had aquired something like 500 unused sick days, she took those days off consecutively and retired when they were up.

i on the other hand work for a small family run business, i've been sick for a few days and took the last 2 off.....there is a big project waiting for me to return which needs to be done by friday, i also do not get paid sick days which suck......but if i'm actually sick i'm a mean bastard and don't want to put my coworkers through it......so i keep my ass at home.

on-ramp 01-24-2006 03:19 PM

if you're sick and go to work anyway because you feel guilty about taking the day off, then you have:

STRESS RELATED WORK DISORDER

NICKG 01-24-2006 05:57 PM

damn government workers and their fringees

tdatk 01-24-2006 06:54 PM

When I was on the clock, I always went to work sick. They don't pay you to be sick at home.
