home security/alarm systems??

We are in process of doing a home remodel here in so cal. Before we close the walls with drywall, we need to run /connect all the security wiring/video cam wiring etc. I am trying to get a handle on costs to make sure we are getting the right stuff at the right price.
Anyone on this board have experience with this?
Thanks!
dave

Nope, but run CAT-5 network cable while you are at it. Drop 'em all down someplace where power will be convienent (for connecting switch, etc)

i've run cat 5 everywhere . all the alarm sensor terminus have been wired and home run to the main control panel area. I have installed most of the window contacts, but now will need to purchase control panel, sirens, motion sensors, key pads

I once worked with a guy who had previously sold home security systems, what I remember is that there is beauceau bucks in it because the raw materials are dirt cheap, (wire, call boxes, sensors, etc...).

Maybe you can find someone here who can walk you through installing the good hardware cheap, or at least all of the wires and sensors.

If Dan can't help you, try:

www.norcoalarms.com

I didn't know Dan was into this stuff. He helped me out quite a bit when I was wiring my house (conventional) and some home automation stuff, but he wasn't into home security then. If he is now, I would definitely go through him.

He's a top notch guy to work with.

There are a huge number of completely unqualified people claiming to be alarm installers. I had a nightmare few months with false alarms and servicemen who couldn't tell which side of a sensor was up and which was down.

Definitely get an individual (not a big security company) with excellent, preferably personal, references.

Right Kevin, but I figure if Dave needs wiring done, Dan can handle it or had a trusted contractor he works with. Dan's a great guy..and I think he's even done business with the TRE fellas. Right Dave?

I trusted Dan to drive my 911 after a few drinks :-) I think a few

Kevin what the hell is UP!!! Man I had actually thought about stopping by during the summer as I was doing some consulting with a customer in your area (think museum). How's the casa?

Souk, I drove your car? Your sure? Damn tekilla.

Thanks for the compliments, unfortunately my expertise (if you can call it that) is in lighting and home automation, both design and sales. No installing but do do some programming of systems.

Dammm, Dan -

You went to see the Prez and you didn't stop by for a beer?
I've been making some killer home brew since the last time, you're welcome to some anytime you are in the neighborhood.

The house is coming along slowly. The to-do list is still way too long, but at least we can see the end with a 25x spotting scope.

Believe it or not, I just finally got started installing some of the more basic home automation stuff last week - it's been so long since I've done any programming of any kind, you should have seen the results of my first attempts. I don't think the house will ever forgive me.

Dave,

I've had good luck with Ademco alarm systems. I have installed a couple of these with great results. I bought them here:

No affiliation, just a happy customer.
