A driver shot to death during an apparent road rage incident at a busy intersection was identified today as Marcus Shane Peacock of Sugar Land.

Several motorists and pedestrians, who witnessed the incident Wednesday night, told police that Peacock was driving a Mercedes-Benz and cut off another vehicle about 6:45 p.m. on Richmond at Shepherd.

According to a police report released today, homicide investigators believe Peacock, 38, of the 2600 block of Fairway, intentionally positioned his car to block the path of a Honda sport utility vehicle.

When the vehicles came to a stop, police said, Peacock got out of his car, walked back to the SUV and pounded so hard on the driver's side window that it shattered.

The 32-year-old driver of the SUV, who has a permit to carry a concealed handgun, fired his gun four or five times at Peacock, striking him in the chest.

Peacock was taken to Ben Taub Hospital where he later died.

The case has been referred to a Harris County grand jury without charges. The panel will have to determine if the shooting was a valid case of self-defense.

Different incident. The one I referenced took place more than three years ago, more like 5-6.

Still, the dead guy in the 2002 incident clearly threaten violence or grave bodily harm upon the self defender, a bad idea in Texas and about 39 other states. Marcus Shane Peacock is much more polite now.

I did learn that the South Carolina state Senate is considering a bill already passed by the SC H of R to removed the mistaken duty to flee concept that was concocted by fascists sometime in the 30's or later.

We have it very good in VA, though the restaurant ban is a sore point with me. Cops are super gun friendly here. I've only been pulled over once while carrying and the cop didn't even bother to look at my permit when I handed it to him and said I had a .45 with me. He just wanted my money and wrote me a speeding ticket.

Yes, I suppose I'll get my CCL, though I don't like the concept of licensure of a right. I need to act soon, I can use my military training in lieu of a course, just need the forms, my mil ID, a check, and fingerprint cards.

Pat, I concur. But quityerb!tchen and just do it. CCW laws only get looser over time. The whole movement started in VA when Oliver North was denied his renewal permit because it was decided by judges back then and this judge didn't like Ollie's politics. After a big fight VA passed a shall-issue law. I applied the first week this was in effect around 1995. Back then the law said the permits could not cost more than $50. But some of the liberal counties took that to mean "$50 for the state police, $50 for the FBI check, $50 for the local processing" etc. I had to pay $150 in cash, get fingerprinted and wait 90 days. The law siad it had to be done within 90 days. About 75 days into my wait, I got a letter from the atty. gen. (Gilmore, who later went to be governor) saying Arlington County was way overcharging applicants and he threatened to throw their DA in jail if they didn't refund everyone's money above $50. Gotta love it! I got a refund check for $100 and an apology letter from the DA a few weeks later. About 94 days into it I went to the courthouse and asked where my permit was. It was sitting right there on the lady's desk and they just hadn't gotten around to calling me. Of course, it can't be mailed.

Nowadays, it's $50, no fingerprints and is issued in uner 30 days. My last renewal was done in 14 days.
