Am I out of it? I haven't heard anything good from U2 since Pride - In the Name of Love and when was that, early 90s? Does anyone here still like U2s music?

I agree, (my favorite U2 album) although some of the Joshua Tree is OK... It's getting better again.

Getting Lillywhite back was a good start, but they just suck now.

Im a little tired of the whole "We are U2 we are important" thing

My favorite U2 song is "Gloria". What was that, 1982? Went downhill after that.

U2 is my favorite band.

During last year's Vertigo tour, I went to their concert at the Meadowlands in NJ (Giant's Stadium). Their final encoure was Bad. An amazing end to an amazing show.

I do like their older stuff better, but their last album, "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" has brought the group back to their earlier sound.

The only U2 albums that don't appeal to me are Lemon and Pop Mart.

Achtung Baby was their last good album, IMO.

Since then, it's been mostly commercial. Much like, but not nearly as horrible as, Aerosmith. Aerosmith deserves a Grammy for sell-out of the decade.

At least U2 is still listenable in their recent mediocracy. Aerosmith sounds like a cheesy movie soundtrack. (Oh wait, they usually are) :rolleyes:

they are like many other bands that have been big, they remain big because they were big. for me what does them in now is that no matter the album they play one or two track on the radio every couple minutes. just over saturated by them now.

Worst band in the world. Just pompous, flatulent bullschit. Corporate rock for the masses, the General Motors of music.

They suck.

IMHO, that vertigo song ruined a perfectly good IPOD commercial. having said that, i have seen U2 maybe three times in concert. the old band is fantastic.

I though Green Day won Album of the year. U2 won Rock Album of the year, amoung others.

That's pretty amzing considering Green Day's album has been out for two years. I guess this year was a bunch of crap compared to Green Day's album.

And what about that Marriah Carrie. I heard she pouted and would not even go to her own party because she thought she should have won. What a arrogant, pre-madona b!tch! And she's fat too!

There are ONLY two bands I absolutely hate: U2 and Nickelback. Absolute crap, every song sounds identical to any other of their songs. They both have it down to a science. The right pattern of clicks & whistles creates a hit-seller. I wish I had figured the pattern out, because I'd be rich out of my mind.

If U2 is still putting out music people want to hear, more power to them.

I saw them in concert in the early 80s a couple times, and they were some of the best concerts I ever saw. The energy level was off the scales.

I still love U2 - one of my favorite bands (for a popular act). They've constantly pushed the limits of what they were capable of without falling into doing the "same old, same old". I respect that, even if I don't really like the styles they've dabbled with on the surface. I give them a lot of credit for trying it out. Too easy to turn a groove into a rut by just recycling the same old formula. . .

A long-duration musician or band (like U2) is inevitably going to be confronted with this: Either they do the same old thing and try to hold onto an established fan base (at risk of becoming a dinosaur as music continues to evolve around them) or they adapt at risk of being called a "sell-out" or alienating their fan base. Look at Rush or U2 or Marillion or Bowie or Beck. All examples of artists that have adapted to trends around them with good success - typically lamented by "old-time" fans that say "well, their old stuff was better. . ." OTOH, consider Aerosmith, the Stones, etc. These guys stick with what they know, but are largely considered "old farts" in the context of today's music. It's kind of a lose-lose for the artist. . .

The Grammys are a self-indulgent chest-beating exercise by the RIAA and its ilk. It lost credibility for me long ago. It certainly did the other night when it awarded manufactured pop star Kelly Clarkson an award. What a crock. I'm not saying she ain't talented, but there are a zillion others out there just as good or better, just without the blessing of the RIAA overlords.

Music has become such a stupid industry. Give me a good garage or bar band any day. . .

I was lucky enough to get inside the stage catwalk for the Vertigo tour stop here in Seattle. When they started into BAD the place went nuts. Last time I heard them play that live was Joshua Tree tour in Vancouver B.C.

They also played Gloria and a couple of other oldies. I looked around at all the younger fans and they had the "WTF, is this a cover tune?" look on their faces.

The only thing that I didn't get to hear was them ending the set with '40'. Instead they just played Vertigo, again.
