How much does the Olympic coverage suck?

So I am watching the Olympics while on the elliptical at the gym last night. I am in a sports-minded mode...I am doing something physically active...it would be nice to have some sports on the gym monitors.

But NOoooooooo....!

Instead they have the OLYMPICS on!

But you say: "'67, the Olympics ARE sports!!".

Maybe they are, but the coverage is NOT. It's one crappy human interest story after another with very little coverage of the events.

Fortunately, the monitor that was down a little ways had SKATING WITH THE STARS on.

legion 02-14-2006 05:03 AM

It sucks.

My wife still loves it.

I don't care about the back stories, show me the events!

My wife gets mad at me every time a Chinese skater falls and I say something like "They probably killed all of her siblings for that."

The Olympics are on? What channel?

scottmandue 02-14-2006 07:01 AM

Well it isn't that bad... of course I was lounging on the couch sipping rum and coke, probably put me in a better mindset.

Oh! Did you see the curling yesterday... I was on the edge of my seat. :D

And when did snowboarding become an Olympic sport? What are the Xgames going to do? (yes I know that it has been Olympics for a while now, still seems odd to see it though)

Neilk 02-14-2006 07:05 AM

NBC needs to simulcast the Olympic coverage. One channel for women that has all the human interest stories interspersed with some sports and one channel for men just showing the events.

One problem with the Olympics in the Internet era is that we all know the results before they show them on tv 12 hours later. Who cares? Show them live!!!

Beats me, I didn't know this was an Olympics year until my wife told me last week.

They are in it 'cause we are likely to win.

Will NBC be brave enough to show the biathlon? Guns in prime time are not popular outside the hands of criminals or actors.

pwd72s 02-14-2006 07:44 AM

I dunno if the coverage sucks or not. I'm not watching. Don't like winter Olympics. I'm holding out for the summer games and women's beach volleyball! :D

BlueSkyJaunte 02-14-2006 08:26 AM

Those volleyball chix are more like skinny men in bikinis.

12own911 02-14-2006 09:13 AM

Tivo the events and then fast forward to the stuff you want to watch instead of the stuff you do not... That's what I do... never have to listen to the human interest stuff...

It's all good this way. :D

Coverage started at 6:00 am on USA this morning. Woo hoo! Prime time! Thank god for tivo. :)

azasadny 02-18-2006 12:07 PM

Isn't Olympics last name Dukakis?

livi 02-18-2006 12:15 PM

Only time I watch sports. Period. I guess Swedish television cover the games differently. Its 90 % events.

Then, like expected, we are not exactly drowning in medals...

I did very much enjoy our lady hockey team wipe the ice with yours, however ! :D

Boo! Hiss!:D

Last night after what seemed like hours of personal interest stories... Skiing! Although it hurt just to watch that poor American girl try to ski after her crash and injuries in the training run, some serious intestinal fortitude there.

and I have to admit... I actually liked watching... snowboard cross... gosh what's next, will I have a sudden urge to dye my hair purple and get multiple piercings?

bigchillcar 02-18-2006 02:53 PM

there's are porsches there..?

I did develope a short interest in watching the women's curling competition when the Russian team was playing.

That young Ludmila Privivkova wasn't hard to look at. 19 yo.

Weird you should say that. I was just watching womens' curling and made the same observation. I checked in to see what was on. When I saw it was curling I was about to move on but one of the Japanese "athletes" was kinda hot so I watched. It drew me in. Sadly, I actually started to get enthusiastic about the game itself. Plus I like how their butts wiggle when their vigorously polishing the ice in front of the stone.:p

Drago 02-19-2006 05:00 AM

I've been watching the early morning live coverage on CBC.

Much better than the American coverage, or lack there of.

Oh, and I'll also admit to watching ladies curling...the two American blond hotties are my favorite so far. :)

bigchillcar 02-19-2006 06:39 AM

ice storm in little rock has knocked out our 'icy olympic coverage'...but replaced it with something far more interesting. i'll set the stage. i live at a somewhat busy residential intersection..and hilly. so, since we lost cable the new entertainment is watching ice-ignorant arkansans try everything to get up the hill..only to slide back down..sometimes into other angry neighbors' yards..or into each other. oh..gotta run..there's another 'spinning attempt' in progress as i write.. ;)
ryan

bigchillcar 02-19-2006 06:40 AM

oh..and yeah..i lost my cable modem, so i'm piggybacking off the neighbor's wireless.. ;)

Photography, A+

Coverage, D-

I can't believe that some bubble-headed NBC commentator asked the mens US Gold-win speedskater (who obviously is not a whore for the camera) . .. she asks/blurts; "are you angry!?"

I guess she felt that he wasn't putting on a good enough show for her, so she when Jerry Springer on his ass. - Pathetic

bigchillcar 02-19-2006 07:36 AM

lol..too bad for the several second delay, island...would have been priceless i'm sure to hear how he actually may have replied! ;)

What's new, they always suck.

We are at least 8 hours behind them and they want it to seem live........

And I really do not care about an interview or the life history of someone from outer povlovia.

Just show a summary of the results, and treat it like a news story. Show the gold, silver and bronze preformances in each sport, and the podium awards and be done with it in about an hour a day...we have it on all day and do not ever see the gold metal performance in whatever, because they only show it once.

But then it has always been that way. If none of us watched it, or the people with the Nielson boxes would not watch it, someone might get the message..

bigchillcar 02-19-2006 08:13 AM

by the way..when are they gonna finally make female mud-wrestling official?? we've known for years in the south that it's ready to make the jump to the world's center stage..so what's the ****ing holdup?? i'm pissed..

island911 02-19-2006 10:10 AM

It sure would be better than that "snowboard cross" -- what a joke.

They looked like a special olympics event. . .. s l o w , and stupid. .. highly banked turns, painted up in snow-cone colors, all so a bunch of floppy-drawered boarders could funnel down the slope like little kids running to the ball-bin at Chucky Cheeses.

Okay, so the good things about the olympics are womens' curling, and I'm going to add ice dancing after last night;) . What's the worst thing? Idiot commentators like Island said? I agree-they're morons. How about the old film clips of cross country skiing showing footage of the Norwegians with foot long goo strings hanging out of their mouths? Or the commentators stating the Birkebeiner is held annually in the mountains north of Green Bay. Sorry? Mountains? I know that there's a "bay" north of Green bay, which is the home of the Packers-yes, it's green. Or the question to one contender-"So, are you going to go back in the spring to find your dead brother who was lost in a storm?" causing the guy to burst into tears. Sheesh:rolleyes:

perhaps they mean 'landfills', as in the mountains of south florida, circled by carrion-seeking vultures..lol
