Has There Ever Been a Time in History When We Were Not at War?
 

I know that our country and others have had periods of piece but does anyone know if say in the past 500 years if there was a time when all recognized sovereign countries were not fighting?

I think everyone stopped fighting for 5 minutes when that "Free the World" song came out with Michael Jackson and George Michael. But that's the only time.

I'm about to start WWIII with the owners of all the barking dogs in my hood.

War is an inherent part of the human condition. There will never be such a thing as "world peace" because there never has been.

Unfortunately, even a mind like that of Emperor Marcus Aurelius couldn't preserve the Pax Romana....and that wasn't entirely free of conflict....

In fact, a world free of conflict would probably look a good deal like that of "Itchy and Scratchy" when Marge got them to stop the violence on the Simpsons - I'm not sure it is something we should seek....

Churchill called the aftermath of WWI a period of exhaustion which looked like peace....

I'm sure there was at least 5 minutes of peace somewhere in there...my guess is that it would be right after one side got done slaughtering the other side to the last man woman and child.

I read a short story on that problem long ago...I think I actually read the short stories in a PLAYBOY issue once. Anyway, in this short story, the last barking dog to leave the area did so with many helium balloons tied to his harness...The first to leave took a one way ride to a Vet some distance away, accompanied with a story of a cross country job transfer, and "Well, Rex isn't getting any younger..." The others were disposed of in various clever ways. Some nights here, while trying to get to sleep, I often remember that story...and fantasize. ;)

Lube, sadly i could not think of a time when we did not have some sort of conflict happening in the history of mankind.

At least Sweden has stayed calm for almost 300 years since Karl XII went berserk all over Europe. To bad he screwed up in the end, otherwise Sweden would have been a major player today. He was one hell of a warrior but, alas, too young and bold.

Worse move Sweden made was selling Volvo and Saab. I would have bought another one - not now. (Your women are very hot though!)

Yup, like selling our soul. Karl XII is turning in his grave. He was the only John Wayne we ever had. Only pussies left around here.

Its just a matter of time before they sell out the Royal family too, together with the Nobel Prize.
