UAE - The sellout of your national security.
Two of the September 11, 2001, hijackers were from the UAE. In addition, most of the hijackers received money channeled through various sources based in the UAE, according to the Justice Department and the 9/11 Commission.
So, given that, the Bush admin. alongside Homeland Security has decided to give port authority contracts to the UAE. Is anyone outraged? We shouldn't be outsourcing our port security, nevermind to an Arabic organization. Bush has reached a new low. |

I don't see why this is such an issue:
- Most hijackers were from Saudi Arabia - your main allies in the region - Most did their flight training in the US with our any problems or alarm raised - does this mean that the US was a safe haven for terrorist training? - I'm sure other bank accounts outside of UAE were used for funding. - US Customs and immigration are still the ones in charge of security - the company in question would just run the port operations itself - The company that was running the ports is already a foreign company -The only difference I see is that it would now be a UAE company and not a UK one. People keep shouting fire, but I don't see any smoke on this one. Basically, if you don't want foreign ownership, don't put it up for sale. Regards, AM

The English are doing the same thing. Selling their ferry system to a UAE firm. No one there is jumping up and down.
Personally I would prefer another group do this type of thing but wonder if anyone else bid on the contract?

are the contracts basically giving administration rights to a uae firm? the ports are still subject to the laws of the land. does this imply that all or critical port security is going to be in foreign hands? i think not..operations just went to the highest bidder. hopefully we've gone into this arrangement with our eyes wide open.

I would rather see less business with the ME (unless it is cheap oil). I go on record as disagreeing with this deal although UAE is probably not as problematic as a nation such as Syria.

I think this is a case of the Golden Rule coming into effect:
