Barry BONDS
I see Barry Bonds in this way:
Shuck & jive artist Avoids all committment to any question Excuses all around One of the most hated of all public figures. ---------------------------------------------------------- What is your take on Mr. Bonds? |

Living where I do, near SF and his high school, I meet people who know him or knew him. They either hate him or undersatand and like him.
He grew up spoiled, in the Giants dugout with Bobbie, so he got a start right there that gave him a big head. The fair assessment of him is that he has no patience with stupid questions, which the media guys bombard him with every day. A lot of people I've met who met him say he was a great guy in person, away from the media. Me, I love him; I mean, 73 home runs for my Giants, what's not to like? |
as a giants fan he is a necessary evil. lets revisit this in say,,, September...
|
No love from me for cheaters. 73 homeruns with an enormous asterisk next to it.
I also hate spoiled brats. |
It's amazing the kind of power he has now... all natural I'm sure

The media - which I inherently dislike anyway - would probably leave him alone if he would just answer the easy questions -
Look at those biceps. |
To me, Bonds represents all that's wrong with pro sports. He's an arrogant, whinny primadonna who's paid an outrageous amount of money....for what? 'Cause he can hit a ball with a stick? He's got lead feet in the outfield anymore. Here in the Bay Area, you can't ever read the sports pages without seeing his name. "Barry Bonds got a hang nail today......'06 season in doubt." WAY too much emphasis on this guy.....
|
Above all, he's a LIAR.

Barry Bonds was, at one time, the most phenomenally gifted athlete I had seen perform in person. He personifies what is wrong with professional athletics now. He is bloated by steroids, difficult to work with, arrogant and selfish. One of the many reasons I no longer follow baseball, formerly my favorite sport. |

Barry says: "Steroids make me Moody"

Bonds: you can either send him to Hell, or The Dodgers. Both are one in the same.

they still play baseball?

aahhhh what in interesting thread.
born and raised in SF, giants fan for a while now,... back to the days of joe strain, bob knepper, "boo", mike ive, the 1st clark= jack, vida, larry herndom, billy north, monefusco, lavelle, etc etc,..... some some other cool cats.... as a person i think that bonds is a deekhead, our high school competed against "serra" and he was a deekhead back then, he whines, complains, prima-donna, blah blah blah blah.... the truth be told, i-we-you are never gonna know him personally so what he does on his personal time i dont care, really. now.... if its the bottom of the 9th 2 out 3-2 count bases loaded and a tie score... there is NO-ONE that i would rather have at the plate for my beloved giants than this guy, he thrives in those situations, PERIOD. and all you guys that complain about him (rightfully so with all due respect!) are jumping out of your seat cheering for the GIANTS just like me and everyone else as he has delivered OVER AND OVER AND OVER again over the years.... PERIOD. all the folks that want to blast him, all with VALID comments are justified but at the end of the day he delivers for the TEAM, and that cannot be denied, for the giants...... |
I guess we disagree about Barry. Over a season, he does indeed deliver. When it mattered, I watched him disappear. His teams wouldn't have gotten anywhere without him, but once in the post-season... Plus with his pricetag, he limits the amount of talent the team can assemble around him. Over a season he is devastatingly productive, but one at-bat for all the marbles, he's not my choice.

taz'smaster,
i can absolutely agree to disagree with you, i accept and recognize your position. however being that you are in colorado, it is quite a different experience to watch the highlights on sports center everynight, as opposed to listen to duane and jon call a game's play by play night after night and day after day, every pitch, every situation, they way opposing managers set their line-ups, set the pitching up for the particular series, the way other teams pitch to hitters 2-3 hitters before him, or 2-3 hitter after him, it was quite amazing to see/hear over the last 10 years. and if you are originally from the city and moved to CO you will know what i am referrign to. furthermore... as far as the post season performance, with the exception of one post season barry FAILED to deliver in performances, however, it is NOT his responsibility to win the games for the giants, he only ADDED to the collective effort of the team, from the pitchers that allow the opposing team to score (of which he has zero responsibility) the the other 8 players that are supposed to help produce runs,..... there endless examples of the TEAMS pulling together to win games without superstars.... the yankees are a perfect example of what i am referring to, they have endless SUPERSTARS on the team and yet failed to deliver,..... on paper the is no question they should have won the series, no one should even have come close to beating them yet they didnt and the yankees have superstars at most positions, the giants ONLY had/have barry.... sooooo your comment in my opinion is marginal at best..... but going back to the day to day on barry it is just amazing to have experienced, really. |
most of my support of bonds is PERFORMANCE based, as i mentioned earlier as a person he is a deekhead agreed, the only thing i expect from this guy as a fan is to perform, everything else matters not to me. and in THAT light, he has over delivered.
his numbers simply cant be challenged. and if anyone wants to point out his 73 in one season,... omitt them.... hell omitt a 100-200 if you like hehehe he is still in the top % of all time and thats just in HR's,.... not to mentioned, stolen bases, on base percentage, slugging percentage, walks, years played, etc etc etc.... :) |
there is more to sport than numbers...at least there used to be.
|
nostatic,
AGREED 100%...... way more to sports than #'s....presence is one.... i have seen teams walk guy to load the bases with bonds coming up, then intentionally walk bonds to FORCE the go ahead run in, just to take the bat out of his hands, i have never seen or even heard of anything like that before..... this guy brings way more to the table then just the #'s. |
