				Trade 911 for 928?

I like my 911, but I don't know that I love it. It's a great car for sure don't get me wrong- I just don't know if its the right car for me, and the type of driving I would like to do. I only put 1100 miles on her in the last year- am I really enjoying it enough?

I can't help but think I might be more comfortable in a GT type car with a V8 in the front. This is why I've begun thinking about 928's. Has anyone made the leap and never looked back? Who came the other way- 928 to 911 and never looked back? Am I nutzzz?

Lots of highway driving? The 928 would be great for that.

Kind of numb and heavy steering--like an Audi. Decent ride, thumpy and firm but well-isolated. Much less wind noise. They have a whole raft of little problems from leaks to electrics but I'm sure you'll do your homework before buying. |

			I'd take a 928 over a 911 any day. Then again, I'd take a 968 over a 928, and a Cayman S over a 968.

If I had a bunch of money, I'd love to have a 911 and one of the last 345hp 5spd 928's, but if I had to choose between the two it'd definitely be the 911 that would have my butt.

What do you not like about the 911 or what keeps you from putting more miles on it or what do you think you'd prefer about the 928? Do you not take the 911 more because it's uncomfortable? Do you not take it because you're scared of getting door dings, are you trying to "save" it from miles/wear? Maybe you should get a 993. That might be more of a compromise between the old 911 and the 928.

The roads around Atlanta do not give the driver of a 911 anywhere near the opportunity to drive the car as it was intended. It just seems like you have to wind it out to make it move- and as soon as you do you're coming up on another stoplight. I do find myself "saving" the 911 for just the right trip- but because my criteria is so tight (no shopping malls, no short trips, no driving in the rain, no stop and go, not if I'll be drinking)- I barely drive it at all. I haven't driven a 928, but my perception is that it would be a more comfortable car, with a lot more torque. I find a torqeuy car to be much more enjoyable in regular driving, as I come from a history of V8's. I even thought maybe an automatic would be more suitable- for that the 928 again lends itself well. I have considered a 993- and do intend to buy one eventually. Perhaps I should go drive some cars for comparison purposes. Who is volunteering their cars? ;-) |

Or if money is an issue an early 996 is cheaper then a 993.

i changed the rear shocks out on my buddies 928. i swear from that point forward, i will never own that car. i mysteriouly came down with the flu when it came time to do the fronts. he loves the car, and his is one of the best looking ones i have seen. low, mean looking, fast like a missle. if i were you, i would keep the 911 and move.

Too bad you can't have both. I like the sharks as well and have really considered in the next few years to maybe get one. The reliability issue is a concern but then again I have a 77 so it's like saying "Hello Pot, I'm kettle, your black!"

In my eyes, the 928 was one of the first cars to suffer from overcomplication and over-tight packaging. It was two decades ahead of it's time in that regard, and I think Audi was inspired by the 928 when they made changing the turbos in my S4 a multi day project.

One of the things that pisses me off the most about modern cars is the tight packaging and complexity, which makes problems hard to find, and harder to repair DIY. If I owned a 928, I would make sure there was a nearby shop that really knew their way around the car. Not sure how many shops like that exist... |

Had a 78 silver 5-speed for like 13 yrs. never owned any other car that long. Wondeful to drive in heavy fast moving traffic. Like I-65 from Mobile northward. Absorbs bumps, eats up the road. My friend used to call it "the supersonic vault"
