I smell a scam...

I'm trying to sell my parents' BMW 740i and I just put out an ad via Myspace. A few hours later I get this note:

"Attention Sir ,
My name is Mark Belk and I am an Automobile Dealer .I
mostly buy cars , Bike,Vans and Many more from the
United States and United Kingdom after which I now
ship them to my customers at their various locations.I
am currently based in United state .I am interested
in your ads and would like you to give me your Best
selling price and I would also like you to inform me
if you would readily accept payment by
Qchex or wire transfer. All other costs would
definitely be taken care of by my Shipping agents,
such as shipping and handling charges contact me via
Email mark_belk@yahoo.com. Kindly send me the pix
I look forward for your Prompt Response.
Thanks,
Mark Belk"

The user's profile is very blunt and states that he is in Keller, Virginia, and he only has 3 "friends". Those of you familiar with Myspace know what I mean.
I'm thinking of writing: "Don't worry about the shipping, I have a friend in the FBI that can get us a good deal and one of my other friends is a CIA agent who partially owns a shipping company." That should get his attention!

You would be better off selling it to a private party regardless.

Yeah, that's what I'm trying to do with Myspace. It's kind of like Craigslist, except you get to create your own profile, add "friends" and join groups and all that.

I'm aware of MySpace. I have an account. It gets old very fast. Get the car into the "Recycler". It's free to private parties and will get you better results. Don't have the prospective buyer come to your house. Offer to meet them at a local parking lot...

If you proceed with this, make sure that the funds are valid. Had a friend of mine get burned with something like this...

Scam. Always flag a response that says "would like you to give me your Best selling price". It's in nearly every offer.

k911sc, it sort of is a teen thing, but many older people use it as well - it's become quite popular. I just got a total of 3 more scams today!!! I never thought so many scammers used Myspace. Oh well, time for craigslist. By the way soldave, thanks for the info. Unfortunatley "The Recycler" is not available for the SF Bay Area.

Heh, thought The Recycler would have been at least been state wide these days. Funny, they have one in Allentown Pennsylvania. Good luck selling the car.
