Still a rumor. From a good source. Amelia Earhart's Electra has been found....
The rumor is that the Discovery Channel guys think they have found it.
Might still be premature, but the reason the story came to me makes sense. Supposedly the story will break in the next few days. |
That would be very interesting...can't wait to hear more.
|
Wow. What an amazing find, if true.

I didn't know she posted here.

wait, I didn't just say that... you're right...I typed it... |
Trivia;
Anybody know what airfield her ill fated trip started from? |
Municipal Airport at Miami, Florida
|
Not sure of the exact name of the field at the time but I believe it was down in Alameda - was it Alameda NAS back then?
|
Last leg was from Lae, PNG.
|
First attempt was from Oakland, Ca. to Hawaii. After refuel, plane takes off , looses a wheel and ground loops. Second attempt started from Municipal Airport at Miami, Florida.

Looking forward to this one.
I hope it's not the usual non-conclusion. http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/5329/amelcord5yj.jpg Does anyone have a high resolution version of this shot of her with her cord where the cord doesn't get it's nose bobbed? |

This one will be interesting. Hope they found the plane.
Sad to see this happen, if she had not dumped the longwire antenna for the plane to save a bit of weight, both Amelia and Fred Noonan would have survived... |

What did she say right before she left?
You feed the dog and the cat, I'll feed the fish. Oh that was bad. Shame on me. ;) |
Thanks for the heads-up; sing.

Wasn't her navigator a man? An Irishman to be exact? What is up with that?
|
Is probably why there were rumors of his drinking problem. Never proved, in fact, just the opposite was found.
Joe is right about the longwire antenna being left behind. An even costlier one was that the lower (on the lower aft fuselage) directional antenna was knocked off on the takeoff roll from Lae. It showed in the pics of a flyby two legs earlier, but was missing in the photos from Lae. Might have contributed to the inability to home the Coast Guard Cutter Itasca at Howland Island, her fuel stop. Have heard nothing further, just the request for a charter. |
