Birdflu has arrived
 

First confirmed cases in Sweden.

Well, it was expected. The media reaction however is absurd. Its covered with a frenzy that wouldn´t embarrass a war report.

We are all going to die, it seems, so I might as well wake up my Carrera and go for one last ride in the snow and salt.. :rolleyes:

You know what else gets me. You see these drug commercials on TV you know. I am waiting for the day that I see one that says “if you have a toenail you are sick and need this drug”

Just left Geneva for America and almost no one on the plane would eat the chicken offered. All the hotels there would not sell it and until this situation is taken care of we need to keep an eye out on this situation.

I posted a couple of things on the other "bird flu" thread and seems that no one cares. Bet this will chance when it hits America and the rest of the world...

What do you guys think it feels like to have bird flu?

Despite the fact that eating a well cocked chicken is perfectly harmless. Hysterical.

You will probably feel bad enough to call in sick that day.. or for good.

I had read that the current bird flu is almost identical to the strain that caused the pandemic around the time of WW 1.

Personally, I am not too worried about it, I never get sick, even when all around be are. This flu thing might just solve our problem with long term care for the baby boomers here, the hard way. I am surprised it has taken so long to spread, with the way folks travel.

Problem is in not so well developed areas. The kids in Turkey who died found the birds and handled them. The young and old may not be able to handle the situation and die. The old have seen and experienced life, but the kids have not.

We need to work on this before it kills a lot more, and I am not just talking about birds.

plenty of rational people are predicting very ugly scenarios within 2 years. Not 100% certain, but decent odds. Let's just say that it does jump species and isn't as deadly as feared...but has a 0.01% mortality rate and 15% of the population is sick. The ripple effect through the health care system and our economy would be huge. Life as we know it would be interrupted. And I don't think people are prepared financially or psychologically.

The British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (BC CDC) has released a list of symptoms of bird flu that the general public should be aware of in light of the increasing likelihood of a bird flu pandemic in coming months. Any of the following symptoms should be treated immediately:

1. High fever
2. Chest Congestion
3. Nausea
4. Fatigue
5. Aching in the joints
6. Difficulty in pecking at insects
7. Flapping wings uncontrollably
8. An irresistible urge to defecate on someone's windshield.

Pretty scary, huh.

I made the remark to my brother that bird flu might be nature's way of solving the overpopulation of the world, he pointed out that the most dire predictions are that it would kill ~100 million people worldwide.

In other words, it would slow down the trend for a year or two, but barely a hiccup in the larger scheme of out of control population growth worldwide.

Hee hee.
