the desert sucks

After spending two years in the desert... i have to say... i now feel qualified to say... it sucks!

it has not "grabbed onto me" like everyone stuck here says it would.

Nice pics though. Where are they taken ?

I spent five years in Phoenix before moving up to Seattle....

And I hate it here. HATE IT! You do realize it rained for 40 days straight, right? Cold, drizzly, grey, everything soggy. I had no idea my Porsche had a leaky windshield until I moved here. I hardly drank coffee until I came here, but you have to just to help stave off the inevitable depression that follows week after week of gloom. I think it's no coincidence that an alarmingly high percentage of the most famous mass murders take place in the Pacific Northwest. Oh, and speaking of the people, everyone around me is a Boeing or Microsoft engineer, and people get their food from co-ops. I feel like I'm surrounded by nerds and hippies. Like to do anything outdoors? You've got about 2.5 months of inconsistently good weather to do it. I like to race cars, and fully one half of the races I attended last summer were in the rain. I'm getting the hell out of here in about 18 months, God willing, and I can't wait. Hate it. Just, hate it.

I like them both

Joeaksa 03-02-2006 04:55 AM

Like them both but prefer the low humidity of the desert and wonderful weather 9 months of the year.

Sorry but just turned down a job in Carlsbad CA because I am not going to give up my lifestyle here in AZ to move there and become an apartment puke.

You are lucky, as Prescott is a very nice place. You are not really in the desert, and need to be in Phoenix or Tucson to say that. Would love to live up in the hills. Let me know when you leave, will take your place up there!

It could be worse......

It could be much worse:

Slak,

You need to somehow add the winters that last forever, 20 mph wind all winter long with the snow blowing horizontal and fun of driving in that crap.

Spent a lot of time in Lincoln and Omaha. Worked very hard to get down South where the weather is nicer...

Ocean living can be rough. Sometimes the girls smell like tuna fish.

air-cool-me 03-02-2006 06:09 AM

the AZ photo is off the net. The ocean shot is the "coastal strip" on the coast of Washington..

"You are lucky, as Prescott is a very nice place. You are not really in the desert"

Its a nice place if your 65 and have the money to golf every day. Tooo many old people! All they do is ***** about airplane noise and ram into each-other in parking lots.

i cant live in a place where rush hour's are 11-3 when all the dead and dying go out for the daily shopping trip..

i know Seattle is full of hippies and nerds... but is that any better then hicks and old people?

"alarmingly high percentage of the most famous mass murders take place in the Pacific Northwest."

you do have a point... :( i used to swim at lake sammamish state park...

On the first part of the journey I was looking at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rain
The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz
And the sky with no clouds
After three days in the desert fun I was looking at a river bed
And the story it told of a river that flowed
Made me sad to think it was dead

You see I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can't remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la,la,la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la,la,la

After nine days I let the horse run free 'cause the desert had turned to sea
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rain
The ocean is a desert with it's life underground
And a perfect disguise above
Under the cities lies a heart made of ground
But the humans will give no love

You see I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can't remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la,
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

Ouch !

Well . .. enjoy the hicks and old people.

I'd love the desert if it weren't for the heat.

And the brown cloud. Disgusting.

Dantilla 03-02-2006 07:33 AM

Let's see........

Moss on my roof.
Moss in my grass.
Moss on the steps to my front door.

-Or-

Sunshine on a regular basis?

Nothing can top Western Washington when the sun comes out. Mountain sports, water sports, yada yada, but you have only a day or two for each one before it starts raining again.

I don't plan on living here much longer.

pwd72s 03-02-2006 07:37 AM

Whenever I drive to the high desert of Central Oregon, the moss on my back dries out and begins to itch. I imagine the same would happen to me in Arid-zona.

Reminds me of the last Cali housing boom, back in the 80s. Everyone cashed out and moved to Seattle. They hated it up there and lasted about 2 years, then came back and bought houses at 50% discounts after the crash.
