Need Help From A Pelican Mac User - Sort Of Urgent

So, I'm in a hotel in Spain, and discover that I don't have the Mac OS X driver for my Hewlett-Packard Photosmart 385 printer.

For some reason, I can't connect to H-P's FTP site to download it. I try to online chat with an H-P tech, but their chat system doesn't support Macs. I email tech support asking them to send me the driver, but I wonder how many days that is going to take . . .

So, if any of our Mac-using Pelicanheads has a couple of minutes, could you possibly download the Mac OS X driver for Hewlett-Packard Photosmart 385 printer and email it to me at johnliu@earthlink.net ?

(I don't know that a PC-using Pelicanhead couldn't do this, but there might be some weird file format issues that get in the way.)

Thanks!

I'm on it.

Give me a couple of minutes.

Post again if Scott's doesn't come thru. I can dl it and post it on my webserver. You are likely behind a firewall that is blocking FTP access, etc.

Thanks to everyone, especially Scott. He put the driver file on his webserver and I was able to D/L it from there. For some reason I could connect to Scott's FTP server but not to H-P's FTP server.

H-P tech support was unhelpful. They simply emailed me a link to the same FTP site that I'd already reached via their support website. Although maybe that's all they could do.

I don't know what the technical problem was with connecting to H-P's site. We are in a short-stay apartment and freeloading off someone's unsecured WiFi network that the iBook managed to find. Who knows how s/he has things set up.

Anyway, here's an update about me. Quit job, took family to Europe, currently vacationing in Spain, going to Paris in a week, having a nice time before I start the new gig.

In the past weeks over here, I've seen maybe 3 Porsches and absolutely no older (i.e. aircooled) ones. What's up with that? My theory is that (1) Porsches are really expensive super-luxe cars here, (2) not as many rich people or maybe not as many liberal lease plans, and (3) minimal garage space means few families can keep an old 911 for the weekends as well as a newer family-mobile for daily use. Our friends in Marseille had a one car + two motorcycle garage, and felt lucky to have that.

Anyway, they (used to) think I'm wealthy because I have a Porsche. Had to quickly correct that misimpression . . .

Kids' teachers asked them to keep travel journals, to make up for missing a month of school. Printer will be used to print digital photos to paste into journals.

Hey John,

Happy to help.

Hope you have a great time. The experience of a month in Europe is way more valuable for the kids than a month in school.

Be safe.

Just had a thought on HP's ftp access.

If you tried to access the US site from Spain you may have been blocked due to software export restrictions.
