1929 Rudge Whitworth Grand Prix Ulster
A few people had asked to see pics of my Rudge, I finally drug it out and cleaned it up a bit. All original, raced in the 1929 World Cup at the Isle of Man. That year, Rudge finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Mine finished 6th. My dad bought it in 1935 from the guy that raced it (a Canadian). Single cylinder, 500 cc, four valve head with dual exhaust and bronze head. It fired off first push, after sitting for at least five years; no kick starter, you put it in gear, push and dump the compression release. The only wiring that it has is the plug wire from the magneto to the spark plug.
I can't go to Las Vegas for the Ultimate Pelican thing, because I promised over a year ago that I would take it that weekend to the All British Bike Meet in San Jose. Here are a few pics. Its unrestored, all original, and all there. The bolt holes on the right side of the tank are from the suicide shift it had as a production bike converted to left hand foot shift for the Isle of Man, first racer with a foot shift, I believe, which is perhaps why it finished so well. Next year, everyone had a foot shift. BTW, had a factory guarantee of 100 mph. ![]() ![]() ![]()

That's awesome! I'll have to show my dad, he'll get a kick out of it.
I think 100 would be rather....exciting...on that. Cool bike.
