True wealth and technology

This subject has come up before, but todays settlement of the Blackberry case got me thinking about it again.

The truly wealthy are less, not more, connected.

Cell phones, pagers, blackberrys, PDAs....they are forms of enslavement.

Hyperbole? I don't think so. Hell, I'm part of the evil mix at this point. I handle all aspects of messaging for my company and our clients.

Sure, one can point to the convenience of having these devices, and to be sure there are benefits. But what people don't see is the tentacles of business creeping into their lives.

They're just as connected, they have people who handle their messages for them.

Wealth is about having choices. If you are wealthy, you could choose to be connected or disconnected as you wish, when you wish.

If you're wealthy, you have a nice yatch with a good GPS unit that keeps you connected at all times. you know where you're navigating and where your next stop will be on your journey.

you may also have an internet connection and a telephone on board, just to "keep in touch".

I hate the term "out of pocket" implying that most of the time I'm in someone's pocket, although I suppose I am.

Not if you don't turn them on....or use them only when you want to use them.

It's also a sign of poor time and employee management skills if your constantly needed that much by your staff.

As of for clients, give 'em the office number only...
