Enclosed car hauler-where to get one?

I'm in the market for something to haul my 911s to DEs and also house it in the winter. I know I can just go to a trailer center and pay list, but I'm looking for a good deal. Any suggestions on sources and what kind to buy? Thanks!

They're on eBay all the time.

http://www.racingjunk.com/ is a great place to find racers selling out or upgrading. Some of the rigs FS there are drool material and some are affordable.

This is my 24' with 110 package, AC, diamond plate, awning and cabinets.
We got it used, 1 yr old from a Kart racer girl. We ended up paying about what it would cost as a new base model.

go to 7 11 and get a trader magazine. there always in there used. I wouldn't pay list especially since yours will be sitting most of the time!

This is a base version of mine. Not a bad deal for someone and you can do the upgrade/ add-ons yourself.

I bought mine at a place in ELkhart, IN... I'lll have to look up the name but I got a 24' brand-name for $4800 cash.. No fooling and not junk either.

I'll post name/location later. I'm still waking up and dumb as a post...

Okay...

Mobile Structures Inc (MSI) in Elkhart, IN.

I bought a Cargomate Car Hauler... 7000# capacity. Next step up was the 10k# capacity for only a few hundred more. Came with elec. brakes, 4 lights, 48" side door, beaver tail and two roof vents. I painted in inside in a few hours and added some lightweight stanley cabinets and Voila!

For the opposite end of the trailer spectrum, check this out.

I've seen this trailer at the 60% done phase - it's going to be awesome. The owner/creator also has a Porsche 356 that he and his wife will be taking to shows.

George-Okay-that guy has waaaaayy too much time on his hands. How do you find the time to have collectible cars AND take on a trailer project?? I agree-awesome.

Chris-I like your trailer and my spending cap is $5k. I was hoping to get one that has some sort of aerodynamic front, like a wedge for that price. No?

cashflyer 03-06-2006 06:06 AM

I bought a 20' enclosed trailer about 2 weeks ago with some of the same criteria - I wanted a wedge nose and I had only about $5k that I wanted to spend on it.

I bought a new trailer, made by Covenant Cargo in Douglas, GA. Price was $5200. I should have shopped around more, because I have been very un-impressed. The build quality was poor. The walls have a lot of flex. etc...

My recent experience has led me to give this advice: Buy a good used one. Because of the depreciation, you can probably find a better trailer at your target price.

Did you see this one posted in the 911 parts area?

2001 Haulmark 32 foot Gooseneck
This may not be the right forum to place this but what the heck. I have a 2001 Haulmark Race Trailer for sale. This is a plain jane heavy duty trailer used only by an old lady to haul her race car to the track on Sunday..well Saturday and Sunday. It has 24 foot of floor space and 8 foot of attic space. Large side door and ramp door. Has lights and vent. Goodyear Wrangler heavy duty tires on all 4's. Aluminum diamond plate on the front. I paid $6K for it less than a year ago. I'll take $5K for it.

If this one is too big for you needs, PM or e-mail me as we might be able to get the price where you want it on the 24' Kristy.

The Haulmarks with the rounded nose were the same price, or very close. I wanted the flat nose for mounting cabinets... Plus it's behind a motorhome. :D

SLO-BOB 03-07-2006 04:09 AM

Byron- Yeah, the 32 footer is way too big for me. Plus I'm hauling with a Yukon XL so the fifth wheel thing won't work.

I appreciate your flexibility on the Kristi. Right now I'm in the homework phase so I'm about 6-8 weeks out on a purchase. I'm especially in no hurry as here in Wisconsin I still have snow in my yard and no street parking until April so I have nowhere to put a trailer until then. If you still have it at that time maybe we can work something out.
