albuquerque in april, roads/sites of interest
I'll be in alb during the weekend of april 8-9 for a conference. I will drive from houston to alb. and wanted to advice on the the local cool stuff to see. I"m driving the P-car so if you know of some twisties withing 50 miles, I welcome suggestions. Plan on leaving h-town on weds and taking two days to make the trip. If you have any suggestions for roads from Amarillo to Alb let me know.

depends on what you want to do. do something different everytime i visit my folks in Santa Fe.
Driving, take any 2 lane to the N,S,E,W and you will be amazed at what you see. if the snow if off the mtns by then head to the north or east. otherwise there are tons of awsome roads that i have been on between Colorado and Santa Fe. FYI tons of speed traps on i25 north to santa fe locals should be able to point you in the right dirrection.

Abq
Born and raised there. I recommend you take the drive to Sandia Crest. Nice mountain drive, incredible view. Stay until sunset for nighttime view.

As I recall, there are some natural hot springs in those mountains. North and West of Abq are some of the best driving roads you will find

Second Sandia Crest. Grew up in Abq. also. Drove my first P-car there, and got a speeding ticket within 20 minutes. (Was a '69 911E).
Try the back road to Santa Fe. East on I-40 to Cedar Crest, then N to Santa Fe. On to Taos is a nice road, too... You can also take the Tram (Cable Car) up to Sandia Crest for dinner. Way cool. At one point you're a mile above the ground below. Look closely and you can see the wreckage of an old TWA airliner in a canyon. Last edited by tcar; 03-03-2006 at 01:09 PM.. |

Albuquerque has a brief windy season in the spring. Just a couple of weeks or so. If you happen to visit at just the wrong time your car could get sandblasted.
