so ive re installed XP and now i've got no sound!
 

I have just re installed XP and seem to have lost my sound. I don't have a little speaker in the bottom right. is it my sound card driver? i did se an error message when i was messing around that said i dont have an active mixer? can anyone help?

What is the exact make and model of the machine.

Almost certainly a driver issue.

Its a dell inspiron 5100 laptop, purchased about feb 04

go to support.dell.com and enter your service tag. Then go to downloads and get the sound drivers from there.

Also, go to the Device Manager and see if you have any exclamation points, they represent missing drivers.
