I always thought that a cell-blocking transmitter would be a great retirement invention. Then discovered that to do so would be illegal.

Why would that be different?

The Israeli's have had one for years, and in fact sell it worldwide. Its illegal here in the US but know that they are getting in some places. The Church's in many towns in Mexico have them, as they are getting tired of the calls during service.

From RTFA, it sounds like this is more of a paint-on faraday cage, not an active jamming device. I don't see how it would be any more illegal than a batting cage.

Easy now, Joeaksa.

It's just that 97% of lawyers give the rest of them a bad name.

I don't think so. Until a few years ago nobody needed to be reachable at any moment. Before cell phones, if the babysitter had a problem they dealt with it. If they had an emergency they called 911. When I used to be on Cingular they had drop out zones all over the place so could I sue them if I don't get my call?

I take that back. Anyone can sue. And they can even win if they get a stupid enough jury. But on appeal it (mostly) works out.

You couldn't possibly prove that. If someone looks at their phone and sees they have no signal bars, they should move outside. This is completely different than jamming.

I have a no cell phones in my office. First offense, point out the sign that says "Turn your phone off" Second offense I point out the door

BTW, WTF is so freakin' important that people have to talk about it while they are driving and putting on their makeup, what the hell are they talking about that is more important than avoiding killing or crippling someone

Applications for this technology are already in place. The Army coats tents with this type of paint to prevent snooping. Aircraft are also being painted to prevent EMI interference on wiring and electronics, a huge problem.
At the other end of the spectrum, there are now paint on antennas that enable helmets to work like whip antennas. I am working with a company to paint antennas on conformal structures of UAVS to eliminate drag and still achieve requisite reception.
Great technology.

I wish they would use this jamming tech. in movie theatres in the US. Maybe I'd go to the movies more often then. The world got by just fine before cell phones and emergencies were dealt with too. If you can't live without your cell phone, stay where it won't bother anyone or endanger anyone's life. I can't understand all these idiots I see yapping on their cell phones while looking for a parking space in the Metro garage at 7:30am. What is so important then? I've never used a phone at that hour.

What is this "phone" thing?

Tabs, did you get my smoke signal last week? I'm hoping the smog lifted in time for you to see it.

Not to imply that I have a one track mind but...

Can this stuff be used to "paint" an antenna on to my 911? Would it get better reception and maybe weigh less than having a wire antenna (and improve aero on an older car with exterior antenna)?

Here is the website:

http://www.unitechcorporation.com/products.php

The guy that has been marketing the stuff, Jim Collis, contact info is below. Jim is an interesting guy, often a little over the top, but in the years I have listened to his marketing pitches I have found that wading through his hyperbole is generally worth it.

Let me know if it works for cars!
