993.............whats a realistic price

There is a big difference in models IMO. For a starting point between $21K for a good condition 95 with 99k miles and $45k for a 97 widebody with low miles. Turbo add another $20k.

$21k for a 993? Where is this deal? Most smoking deal I ever saw on a 993 was a buddy who got a perfect and well-modded '95 for $25k. Widebodies can go well into the $50k's, especially the C2S's. I paid $40k for C2 in 2003, it had 24k miles on it, some tasty mods and was concourse clean.

There are 8 in my area, 95 & 96, between $22.5 - $24.9. Walk up with $21K cash and I am sure you will walk away with one of them. Personally, I wouldn't want one of these as they are pretty worn.

Oh, well I wouldn't take a worn 993 for free. You can easily throw $20k + into making it right. These cars can be very expensive if the PO did not take good care of them. When I bought mine the seller told me he used to vaccum his house every day before he went to work and every night before he went to bed. When I touched the car, he wiped my prints off. THAT's the kind of guy you want to buy a car from.

pbs911, where are the 993's that you mentioned? Are they on a website? I'm slowly shopping for one as well. I know you get what you pay for and Rick is right about spending $20k plus on a "cheap" car that is worn out.

No offense to pbs911, but I have never seen a "good condition" 993 for anywhere near $21K. I am not saying pbs911 is incorrect, just giving you my experience. My experience also tells me that you may be lucky to find one in in the high $20's, which will be snapped up in a big hurry. Low $30's is a more realistic starting point for a good condition 993.

Rick..........In general terms, what milage would you say would make it worn?

I know alot rests on who maintained the car, but when do the motors start to get tired?

I saw one at Hershey two yrs. ago that had 200k miles on the unrebuilt engine. The V-ram engines get the CEL eventually, but when depends on how and how often you drive it. I flog the piss ou of my car, even though I don't track it anymore. I'm at 50k miles now and so far no CEL. And the CEL no longer requires a rebuild to remedy. Someone look up my old thread on buying 993's in the Tech. Forum. This weekend at our tech session, there were two white C2S's (what are the odds of those being in the same place at the same time?). One belonged to a guy who said he was using 1 qt. of oil per 600 miles and he had 50k miles on the clock. He had his engine tray still on. So I took it off and there was 1/2 of oil right there. Turned out his small oil filter was not very tight. I'd be worried about cars driven 50k miles in hot climates that still had their engine undertrays still on.

No offense taken. I would not buy a $25k 993, let alone a $21k 993. The autotrader website turned up those 993. No referense wasmade to the condition, but some are avaialble for those prices. I wouldn't want one. If someone wants a well maintained and low mileage 993, I agree you are going to pay in the neighborhood starting at $28k for a nice '95.

Honestly, if you get a very well cared for 993, your most expensive maint. item will be rear tires (certainly if it has 18" wheels). These cars eat them for breakfast and you can't replace them for less than about $1100 for all four. Next is alignments. They run $300 a pop and you need one every time you fuss with the suspension or drop the engine. Stock shocks are no good past about 30k miles. All US spec. 993's need to be lowered. It just is what it is. Figure a good $1500 (including pro alignment) if you DIY the shocks, for new suspension.

Aside from my track wreck and the insur. deductible, the only things I've had go bad on my 993 were a rear toe arm grease boot and tie rod boot. The rest I did was unnecessary, but as Steve said, mine is one of the nicest ones around. Literally not a single scratch or ding on the entire car.

Really? $28k for a nice '95? Possibly for one with 100k miles on the clock. But that is not a nice 993. A nice 993 has 50k miles max, is in good condition and is well maintained. Plan on spending $32k min.

I have seriously considered looking for a 1997 C2 as a daily driver. I was thinking 35k as a budget.
