Ebay...wanna check a seller out berfor bidding?

This might be a good website to add to your favorites list if you buy or sell on ebay...

The problem I see with this site is that it's pretty much one sided. There's always two sides to a story.

Rick, I agree...but if you check only on the ebay site, you get only ebay's story. I don't think more info is ever a bad thing.

Yes...true. While Ebay has a response mechanism it's very short. You really can't explain much. They should put more resources into beefing up this area of the business. As you say more info is good.

I have been VERY suspicious of ebay... however I couldn't pass up some of the bargains. I have only got burned once and because I am so paranoid I filed a grievance with paypal and got my money back.

I have found if you buy from people that have 100+ transactions and positive feedback in the high nineties it is pretty much no problem.

Don't see much need for that site... other than for venting

YMMV

I am in the process of getting an $800 lesson on eBay. I bought a computer monitor off a seller with 99% feedback, great recommendations, blah, blah, blah. I do an instant paypal purchase and the sale is under the paypal buyer protection plan, so I feel safe. 5 days go buy and no reply at all, after numerous emails. I can see is still putting new auction up during this time. After the 5th day, a negative feedback comes up for the very same monitor I bought. The guy never sent it. I'm freaking out at this point and dispute my paypal charge. Now I have to wait 10 freakin days. During this time period, another 2 negative feedbacks come in, another one for the same monitor. My 10 day period is up on Monday, when they will supposedly "credit" my account. Only now, there is about $3000 in money that needs to be reversed and the seller is no longer registered. I would be shocked if they reverse this fraud. If not, all their "Buyer Protection" advertising is pure BS. I guess as long as the dishonest person has a full bank account the paypal can debit, everything will work out fine. Yeah, right.

"Buyer Protection" advertising is pure BS.

If the seller doesnt have money to cover it, then you're out. It never comes from Paypal (ebay)'s accounts

89, I suspect that may well be a hijacked account, unless the guy sold a lot of monitors previously.

No. it wasn't hijacked. The Seller did actually communicate with me through My Ebay and was selling other items. His paypal account was active through the eBay checkout. Thats what made it more puzzling. If this doesn't work out, I'm officially through with eBay.

If your paypal was funded by a major CC then contact them. YOUR CC company WILL refund your money. Then they go to PayPal to collect. Ask me how I know.

Got stiffed (in the end) on damaged product, seller coughed and disappeared, Paypal "investigated" dispute. Eventually Paypal said that MY owed money was on hold while they "pursued" the seller. I said...............yeah ........OK.

Called my CC and they were very helpful. I explained the situation and guess what? the money was back to me by the next business day!!

Thats why I am starting to understand why so many hate Paypal. Its great, until there is a problem. They force paypal on you to take the place of a credit card. I copied this from their site:

PayPal Buyer Protection

$1,000.00 USD purchase protection at no additional cost.

PayPal Buyer Protection covers:
An eBay item that you paid for but never received
An eBay item that is significantly different than what was described in the listing
Guidelines:
You must send payment to the PayPal account associated with the eBay listing
You purchased a tangible item
Your claim must be filed within 45 days of payment
You may only file one claim per PayPal payment
You are limited to three PayPal Buyer Protection refunds per calendar year

No where in this does it say "unless the deadbeat seller doesn't have enough money in his account to cover the chargeback"? Am I missing something or is this just pure deception?

Got the full refund today from paypal! Either the seller didn't have time to close out his bank account, or just assummed paypal would take the money back. Either way I'm happy and can't fault paypal and eBay, at least in my situation.
