Mike Wallace is 88???

Probably the most boring thread in years, but I just saw on tv that Mike Wallace of "60 Minutes" is retiring. He's 88. I pegged him at 70. Who else is older/younger than we thought?

bigchillcar 03-14-2006 03:00 PM

well, i'm 40 and i friggin' can't believe it. :(

Ryan,
I guess you're right. I'm 35 and always think everyone is younger than I.

bigchillcar 03-14-2006 05:59 PM

yeah..i hit 40 this past january and it bothered me like no other birthday ever has. it's been a tough past couple of years..i had to quit my career and am trying now to start over in another field..lost my love..so now i'm alone on top of it. i 'celebrated' by myself in a silent house with nothing but a steady rain falling outside..poignant. okay, self-pity rant over..for now..lol. ;)

Thread hijack: Since I turned 40 I intentionally spend every birthday by myself. If it falls during the week I take the day off. I usually hop on the motorcycle and ride down to southern Missouri with my flyfishing rod. I spend the day in one of the rivers casting and reviewing my life. Doesn't depress me at all, kind of uplifting.

I gotta start doing that.

My company gives us our birthdays off. I love it. I always treat myself to a nice drive in the P-car down to Mt. Vernon, jog a few miles, grab a Jamba Juice, go shoot at the range and then get spoiled by the lady when she gets home from work. I don't worry about turning 40 at all.

Dantilla 03-16-2006 08:57 AM

The calendar says I'm over forty, but so what? Life gets better all the time.

At twenty, if I went to a car dealership to buy a car, they assumed I was just kicking tires, and ignored me.

At forty, if I go into a dealership to kick tires, they assume I can buy, and toss me the keys to anything I want.

Buying and selling property no longer freaks me out.

When I ask banks for money, they always say yes.

I don't have to ask banks for money anymore.

The list goes on and on.............
