New Airbus A380 evacuation... 33 hurt.....
For certification today, Hamburg Germany.
Airbus blocked half of the exits as a surprise, the evac'd 837 people from the new A380 in 90 seconds. 33 injuries. Yeah right. Next time you are exiting a flight, see how long it takes. Granted the 837 people were all aviation people (usually the people who built the plane), and they KNEW they were going to be evac'd. And no carry on luggage, no cell phones, no laptops, no purses, no briefcases, no fear, no fire, no smoke, no crash. But the bar has been set for legality. 837 souls on board. Right. |

Read "Destination to disaster" - about the door that fell off a DC10 over Paris and then read about 737 tail problems - then talk about the Airbus.

The aircraft, on a scheduled passenger flight from Baltimore, Maryland [BWI], overran runway 31C at Midway Airport at 7:15pm local time in snowy weather. The flight crew reported that they conducted a normal ILS approach to runway 31C, touched down at 133kt, and had trouble selecting reverse thrust. The Boeing's autobrake system was left disarmed by the crew for added manual braking control on touchdown. The airplane skidded through a fence on the northwest side corner of the airport, and impacted several vehicles at a busy road intersection just beyond the airport perimeter. A six-year-old boy in one of the vehicles subsequently died as a result of his injuries.

17 FEB 2005 FAA issues emergency AD on Boeing 747 upper deck fuselage cracks
Reports of large cracks common to fuselage frames in the upper deck area of certain Boeing 747 models forced the FAA to issue an emergency airworthiness directive. The FAA will prepare a superseding AD, but until then the airlines have to carry out repetitive inspections and repairs if necessary. (FAA)

Go to Airliners.net if you want to get into a pissing match about Airbus vs Boeing.
That said, if there is ever an evacuation on any airplane, I don't think anybody will be too concerned if they got injured but made it out alive.

Like I said

Stevo...... Chill!
Have no idea why you are so virulent, but your agenda is showing. What I said was that the idea of that many people evacuating at the same time is ludicrous. In fact, it was done in 80 seconds. One broken leg, and the other 32 were bruises and scratches. Most of those from a slide that deflated. If you'd like to start a thread slamming Boeing, please do so somewhere else. I can assure you there are as many, if not more AD's and concerns about Airbus as Boeing in the real world. My point was the thought that such a test as this that evacs that many prepared and professional people actually means anything is ludicrous.

Sing pilot - most times the 380 has been mentioned here theres always a USA vs Europe agenda - not my agenda.
There are always problems with the introduction of new technologies - its to be expected - injuries evacuating an aircraft as large as this are also to be expected. Its to everyones advantage to have more than one large airfame manufacturer. Neither side of the Atlantic has a record to be totally proud of - lets hope that more modern techniques and quality measures erradicate the problems of the past.

Last August an Air France airbus overshot the runway at Pearson Airport during a thunder storm. Every one got out in less than 5 minutes. There were some minor injuries but no fatalaties.

My beef with Airbus? They're sucking up all the frickin' carbon fiber!

Just went across the pond both ways on a Boeing and Airbus. Sorry but I like the Boeing products more but then am a pilot and aircraft mechanic.
I will never fly a A380 unless I can be seated near an exit. Just too many people to get out at one time if something happens. The scenario above is with people who know what is going to happen, are ready and in good shape. Life is not like that and it will not go as well the first time one of these has an issue. As well, like Thom says, they are really using a lot of carbon fiber. The Airbus that crashed off of Long Island after 9/11 had the carbon fiber tail come off. Seems that the pilot flying pushed on the rudder to compensate for some turbulence. Gosh, I thought that below VA (maneuvering speed) that you could use the controls to full lock but not on an Airbus. Another reason to stay away from an Airbus, but then I only do it for a living... http://www.flyingmag.com/article.asp?section_id=12&article_id=527&print_page=y
