administrative government
Should the US start a new form of government, I will call it an administrative government for want of a better term. No new laws could be passed, only the present laws administered as written. Every, say 25 years a public referendum could be taken to decide on any changes to the laws. Why not???
All the laws of any reasonable kind have already been written and then some. I say that all laws be sunset and every 100 years be revived, if they have been used for any useful purpose. Otherwise they go the way of the do do bird. Revisions, every 25 years, at most and then subject to public referendum. That is one way to reduce corruption in the legislature. The other is to pay them a suitable salary, ie say 10 million per year. But, one of the conditions to become a legislature is to already have made millions on your own, ie be independently wealthy. This is the only way to reduce the influence of money on the legislative process. We really DO NOT WANT laws to repesent ALL the people ALL the time, its inconsistant with echonomoic growth and health of the country. Just like in the commie countries, but the people make the choices not the leaders. And furthermore, only landowners should be able to vote. Anyone who has nothing, has nothing to lose, therefore he cannot be a voting partner. Last edited by snowman; 03-16-2006 at 09:00 PM.. |

Sounds a bit like ancient Rome.

I like Jack's core thinking.
A basic problem is that all three branches are in constant war for power to control. A more complicated issue is dealing with social issues. Wall St likes it when no party in DC is in complete control so nothing gets done. Politicians grandstanding that they are smarter than accomplished businessmen and West Point strategic thinkers never seemed kosher. If all $ contributors had to be listed on a transparent web site open to all voters plenty of political bs would be eliminated imo. afa voting rights goes.. I think convicted felons are allowed to vote in some states? Ancient Rome had a good act in supporting maybe 200 different religions. I always thought that acknowledging other beliefs was healthy to a population although it's lack of a strong middle class needed constant warfare to support its economy.
