washing machine repair question

the water pressure coming out of the washing machine is very low.

it's around 10 years old.

when it fills with water, the flow is very low. Both the hot and the cold flow slow.

The supply lines going into the washer flow fine. So the obstruction(s) are in the washer somewhere.

Is this common? Is there a way to clear it out?

Check the filters where the washing machine hoses connect either at the machine end or the supply line end. Mine were caked with water line debris over the years. If you have low water pressure coming out of the machine into the sink then you have a clogged or bad pump.

Replace the fill valve - it has 2 electric solenoids that open and close when the washer calls for hot or cold. It probably just isn't opening enough - very common on old stuff with hard water.

It is an easy job with a cheap part. Even if its not the problem now, it will be eventually. If the screens are full of sediment - change the whole valve anyway while you have it disconnected and its probably time for some new hoses as well. They really make a mess when they decide to go - especially if you don't notice it for a couple of days. Should't have to spend more than 30-40 bucks for all 3 pieces.

A good place to get appliance parts is www.repairclinic.com. I'm not affiliated with them in any way but I've bought several parts from them and their website is easy to navigate and their prices are reasonable.
