If she wins the Democratic primary, she's won the general election, seeing that the seat she is seeking is in Chicago and the only election that matters there is the Democratic Primary. The machine has made sure no Republican has been elected to public office in the City of Chicago in what? Over 100 years.

Maybe I'm just trying to not be cynical out of the gate. This is what appears to be an intelligent and brave woman who actually has DONE something rather than sit on her arse and whine. I'd like to think that people like this (disabled or not) provide some hope for American politics...

She and her husband were both at a Press Club luncheon I attended about a year ago. She sat at the head table and I couldn't see her wheelchair. I was wondering why she didn't stand when they introduced her. I wish her luck. But it's too bad her injuries will get far more attention than anything she says.

No, I can't support anyone smearing someone because of their disability. However, Max Cleland got himself in trouble by insisting that DHS be unionized. That had NOTHING to do with his injuries and was a prefectly legitimate campaign issue for Chambliss. Being a disabled vet does not make one immune from criticism on their bad policy choices. The same goes for John McCain.

She's not a consultant, she's not a campaign operative, she's not an RNC staffer and she in no way speaks for Saxby Chambliss or any other Republican candidate. She writes books like Al Franken does. And neither speak for any candidate.

I am confused the article states a republican sat in the seat che is after for 32 years. How is there no Republicans in elected positions there?

That is just what a pair of influential Illinois Democrats expected when they recruited her to seek the seat surrendered after 32 years by Republican stalwart Henry J. Hyde

BTW Jim Cesiro, I don't know much about IL politics, but Henry Hyde is sort of like as entrenched as Robert Byrd. That seat was never in play while he held it, so it's not like Republicans were really scoring big victories every two years when Hyde got reelected.
