Help me plan my vacation!!!!

My wife and I are in the middle of planning a summer vacation. Just the 2 of us-no kids, dogs etc. At first Vegas looked good, mostly because of the cheap airfare and hotels. But the more we think about it, it does not really make sense. We are not big gamblers and I am not sure what else there is to do out there.
Maybe some place in Florida. Any decent place with a ocean beach. We are planning on the 3rd week in June and my budget is between $500 to a $1000. (yes I know-I'm cheap)
Any suggestions. Really curious as to where some of you have had a good time on a getaway. I am still keeping an eye on the travelocity deals. Seeing what is flying out of Flint, MI and Detroit.
Mike

Aruba should be inexpensive?

otherwise a package is usually $200-$300/day each with air fare.

Cozimel sic can be inexpensive without a package.

Ronin,
Not into camping. Aruba sounds real nice. I was just looking on travelocity and Miami looks like fun. The Betsy Ross Hotel on South Beach might just be the place. I was really hoping for a more quite setting. But sun and the beach is the priority.

$500 to $1000 once you get there, or in total?

Regardless, Fla in June is a swamp...Rehobeth, Del is hot, but less swamp-like. South Carolina can be a bargain (Pauley's (sp) Island at one end of the spectrum, Myrtle Beach on the other).

Any farther north and the prices skyrocket.

Unfortunately, you want to vacation in the middle of the season...

michael..just my two cents, but vegas is for couples, not really the kids. aruba is beautiful, it's true..when i was a professional pilot, i frequently flew air ambo missions in and out of that country..lots of folks living there with dual-dutch citizenry. but my advice would be to stay at home..by that i mean the good 'ol usa..we have plenty of places to see..keep the dollars here and not have the additional worry right now of being 'an american and abroad'. i lived in miami for nearly a decade..lots of fun places to go and see and you can find less crowded beaches if you look..key biscayne in particular..it might be a harder to find privacy on miami beack itself. you can always rent a car and drive down into the keys, too. there's really no beach in the key areas, except where they created them (rocky shores). near marathon you have the famous 'tiki bar' or go all the way to key west. it's an interesting place and part of the country everyone should take time to see, as it's our only really sub-tropic region. yes, florida is hot in the summer, but there's generally good ocean breezes. when t-storms come in the afternoon, they frequently come and go in a hurry.

Mike,
In July bring your family east to Nova Scotia. It's not crowded and the sunrise trail area has the warmest water north of the Carolinas.

Lots of seafood, interesting trails and walks and if you get tired of over 400 years of European history, you can visit one of the First Nations' sites. On top of everything else, the exchange rate is usually favorable.
(Hey, I work in the tourism sector)

Spirit Airlines out of DTW..under $200 ea. If looking for a nice beach and moderate prices, check out Siesta Key Beach near Sarasota. Rated one of the best beach areas in the U.S.

ok.. probably another worthless thread of mine.

I've been to S Fla and the Keys many times. The bride even stated "We are not moving to the Keys. I don't care how many friends you have there."

I've spent a small amount of time in Nova Scotia.

S.Fla is a hectic mess with relatively big bucks necessary to enjoy the place.

Nova Scotia is low key, astounding and alive in its forest beauty, interesting in a simple cultured way, safe, and cheap. The ocean isn't the best compared to others in a toutist sort of comfort way but the ocean and shore line is alive. It's the real deal. The area is genuine.

South Beach is a big bucks party waiting to happen. If you're a switch hitter you'll find action. It's crowded but it can be fun if you're a party guy.

true, south florida ain't cheap..but you'd have a good time. still, ron's suggestion of nova scotia sounds intriguing..i'd be all over a place that itsn't already a crowded tourist trap..worth considering in my book.

oh.. it's a place where you'll be able to explore an enchanted little world. It feels healthy just thinking about it. Almost no tourists especially if you want to avoid them.

I found out about the biggest tourist action for young guys and girls when I was hanging with some NS native tourists in a protected camp fire area during the rain. The young couple said it was the water slide. NS is not a big tourist attraction imo.

Do big research before going imo.
