Rebuild in Germany 6 years ago was $16K.
New motor from Germany at the time was about $40K.

These engines of yours are the BMW M12. They displaced 2 litres, were N/A, dry-sump, 300-330HP. The engines were for european F2. They also saw use in iterations of the BMW 320 and Chevron's B36 "under 2 litre sports racer" class in Europe.

Interesting to note how these engines have ITBs instead of slide throttle. I recall only seeing slide throttle setups from '74 to '77...are these a later intake system from the early 80's? Does this make them more likely to be F2 motors rather than Gruppe 2/5? It still has the Kugelfischer pump so it was pre-EFI.

They may be correct, Wayne. Our M12 has slide injection. As noted, yours are ITB. I don't know anything about M13s in GTP. If you could tetermine the compression ratio, I'm sure you could find your answer.

The BMW powered March chassis of 1981 still had slide throttle according to my pictures. It only ran the m12 at the end of the season and it was a 320i turbo motor. The program from '85-'86 used the F1 m12/14 that they punched out to 2 liter. You should start by trying to contact Erik Wensberg who ran the teams for BMW-NA. Hans Riedel was head of marketing for BMW NA at the time.
