$1 Million to invest... FREE!

Anybody competing in the CNBC investing contest? You get $1 million to invest. Top portfilio in the end gets a Maserati.

http://www.sbfantasyportfolio.com/

I see a lot of guys who seem to know their stuff here... let's see who's tops. Minor detail... no short trades, EFTs, mutual funds, etc. All trades price at the market's close.

No mutual funds? That puts our portfolio out. All of our major losses have been when trying to pick individual stocks. Our gains, and we've never had a portfolio losing year since 1993, have been through no load mutual funds, mostly Vanguard family index funds, some of them international, also treasury bonds & bills, since the interest gained from those is not subject to the Oregon 9% income tax. We're conservative. Our year to date (Jan. 1 through March 31) gain is only 2.5%, but at our age, we only have 40% in equities. We won't win a Maserati with that performance. But then, I don't think I'd want one. Some say you can't time the market. Maybe so...but we got out of equities in Jan. 2000, didn't get back into them until March of 2003. How did Cindy do this? She gets naked, smears herself with wood ashes, goes out back in the trees, and studies chicken entrails...she also reads a lot.

They limit the stocks you can play with to $500 million market cap, so penny stocks are out too.

It’s a crapshoot. The winner will be the guy who bets it all on some unknown stock that, due to pure luck, goes up some 70 or 80 %. Anyone who invests normally, e.g. diversifying across markets, etc, etc, won’t get anywhere near the performance of the one lucky gambler. On the other hand, the normal investor will do better than all the unlucky gamblers who bet it all on some unknown stock that does nothing.

Buy as many Class 3 guns/sears as you can - they are only going up up up in price. Anything non-LEOs can buy was made pre-86 and more and more people want them.

That's the way I see it...Cindy & I invest OUR money...it's not a game or a contest to us. Neither is it gambling. This contest is just that. "Ladies & Gentlemen, place your bets"...

I'm in...already in that is. My screen name is TwoTen. As of this morning, they still hadn't processed the trades from last night - kind of aggravating.

Turbo6 - I was all over pennystockdaily.com - until I found out - no penny stocks.

I put a pretty even split into Apple (AAPL) and Suncor (SU) - so we'll see. Last I checked Apple was up a few dollars.

Oh, does anyone know the answer to today's question? I got yesterday's correct but I haven't looked at today's question (came here first).

I'm going to look at it now - I'll post the answer if I know it.

I invest with REAL MONEY.....and I don't need to know a fkin thing cause I have a money manager whose sophistication/knowledge is right up there with the former Fed Chairman...and his staff. When she speaks the RNC listens...

I think the point is to put your (or whomever you pay) knowledge in action!!

Tabs (and others) you may well be loaded but don't even begin to tell me you'd sneeze at a 400hp Maserati Gransport - ALL TAXES PAID!!

"Exsqueeze me??" Call me crazy, but for a few clicks of the mouse, that's a pretty good deal.

But hey, what do I know???

I'd do it, but I don't know where to start looking for stocks that produce good short-term gains.

If one of you guys gets the Maserati, I want a ride.

tabs, the guys at the Federal Reserve make policy based on the view from the rear-view mirror. I wouldn't trust them for diddly.

Turbo6 - I agree. The contest is only 8 weeks long so that makes it tough (in my opinion).

If I win, everyone can go for a ride - but not at the same time - hahaa.

Hahaha! I might scare the crap out of you!

I got into the pool as another way to compete with my friends and co-workers (and since I'm very competitive by nature, I would like to win).

Thats why its a toss up as to who the MOST powerfull man in the world is.... the Fed Chairman or President of the USA.

A coupla words by Greenspan was able to wipe Trillions off the Table....or make Trillions.....He was the guy EVERYBODY in the world stopped and listened to....control of interest rates is a very powerfull tool.

So your welcome to your opinion...

Oh, I don't argue Greenspam is not a powerful man. I think he, like an economist, only reacts. He cannot predict or anticipate. If he was so good, he would have prevented the meltdown in 2000, and he would have put the kabosh on this housing boom. Of course, one could argue things are going exactly as planned. I suppose things are great if you're on the right side of the fence. The folks on the wrong side are stepping in big piles of cow **** and still wonder,"What is that smell?"

So, you're welcome to your opinion...

NOBODY has a crystal ball and can predict the future....if I could I would be the proud owner of that Maseratti....

But what I was saying is that my representation is about as good as it gets...and it seems that the powers that be seem to think so too.

The powers that hold precious metals don't seem to think so.

I wish it really were easy
