Please share your opinions - Interview w/ Honda Rep about New VTG technology!

I found this when doing a search regarding news about Variable Turbine Geometry.

On or around three quarters of the way through the clip the Honda Representative states that "Honda came up with this technology".

I know this technology has been out for about fifteen years now.

Is he misinformed?

Recently, I read in a Porsche mag that Porsche had refined and brought this technology to light.

What is the truth and was this (Honda rep) person stating truth?

IIRC, there was a small Chrysler product about 10-15 years ago that pioneered the technology.

But being made of the fine (cough-cough) quality that Chrysler was known for at the time, they have all fallen apart, with their rusty little bits now turned back into dust, and none survive. With no evidence left, current car companies can claim to have come up with something new.

Garrett has been making variable geometry turbos for like 20+ years, this is not new technology - just a new application. They were around in commercial diesel applications LONG before Honda or Porsche ever considered using them.

I laughed when I saw an article about the new 911 Turbo where they were saying that variable turbine vanes were a new innovation by Porsche - pure marketing BS.

Garrett introduced the VNT turbo to cars on the 1989 Shelby CSX Shadow.
It allowed a single turbocharger to both build boost early for good torque and also to flow well at higher levels. The turbochargers themselves proved to be fairly robust, but I think the controls back then on the Chrysler "Turbo IV" engines were less than ideal. I'm actually surprised it has taken this long for Porsche (or anyone else) to embrace this technology but am glad to see it in the mix once again.

That is what I thought, too. I watched the guy in the interview and even played it back a few times and noticed his face mannerisms change to almost "lying" characteristics. (My perception even boggles me )

Does the new 911 Turbo use a Garrett Turbo or KKK?

Is the VNT actuated by a spring/diaphragm or electronic solenoid?
