Another 911 killer - this time audi...
Seems like there are many manufacturers that have the 911 in their sights - here's another.

I wonder if it is a case of "badge engineering" the Cayman?

It's a Gayardo chassis with an Audi shell and motor.

Obviously hiding intakes high and low behind the door.
I'm impressed.

We still have the fastest SUV on the planet. So what if they have a sports car in the works that is backed up by a "current" world dominating Lemans effort?

Yeah, I'm surprised a "pure" sports car hasn't come out sooner?
Interesting...

![]() I like it Jeremy. Here is my current favorite. Priced to compete with the Cayman, unfortunately it will outperform the 911. |

The Audi looks better than the 996 or 997... but maybe it's just the flat black paint.
Shawn - you are in the playoffs for best comment of 2006...

It's a very nice take on the Nissan 350Z.

If this is the same Audi that's supposed to be sharing a platform with the supposedly forthcoming Miura (both using a Gallardo chassis...confused yet?), then I remember reading a blurb in R&T about how one idea was to keep electronic aids and general electronic bloat to a minimum. We'll see.
Re: Audi, all I've been able to think of since the introduction of the new RS4 is why the company that can build the R8 and R10 won't--up until now--pursue a real sports car, which I don't think the RS4 is. It's big, heavy, has four doors, and a high CG. But as far as I can tell, the engine is brilliant. 4.2 liter V8 that revs to 8,600 rpm and produces I think upwards of 420 hp. Stick it in a well designed, light-weight chassis and you're off! |
