Could it be because MINI isn't gay/lesbian friendly?
Always wondered why the PO of my 2005 MINI sold the car to me so cheap. The lesbian couple who owned it kept their Miata and a Ford F150 or Ranger (can't remember which). They said they were selling the MINI because it's their third car and that its ride is too stiff and bouncy, especially for the passengers in the rear over the wheels. I don't think it rides that way at all. I've ridden in a Miata that was set up way stiffer. The MINI's ride is nowhere near as stiff as my SC.
Then, tonight, I read in a MINI forum that MINI advertises in gay/lesbian mags but don't offer same sex, life partner benefits to their employees. That community is blasting the manufacturer over this and some are choosing not to buy the product because of it. I could be wrong but I bet that's why they sold off their nearly new MINI. If I'm right, they paid some serious coin on the depreciation to make a statement. The car's solid. I've not had any problems whatsoever and it's a blast to drive. I posted this on the Miata forum and the moderator shut down the thread. Last edited by cantdrv55; 03-31-2006 at 10:26 PM.. |

I've had it now about 6 months and just had it serviced by BMW at 10k miles. No leaks, runs like a top!
I bought it about $3k below low blue book private party seller pricing. |

Thats really interesting. When I frequented a Florida MINI board I was suprised how many openly gay owners there were. One guy raced his MINI in a race series and was a mechanic at a speed shop.
This must be some recent news. Unlike Larry David I am not "in" with the gay community so I do not get the info from their meetings.

Wouldn't MINI's employee benefits be the same as BMW's?

Pretty interesting standoff. I wonder if all car marques will eventually follow suit. I'm not sure if BMW and Porsche really needs to though because they are so profitable. Last edited by cantdrv55; 04-01-2006 at 06:49 AM.. |
