$182,000 for a new plexi cockpit bubble? That makes me sick...

Upon being freed from the cockpit after 5 hours, I'm sure the pilot's first mission was to find one of those $50k toilet seats...

They are modelling the new Liberal "Tin Foil Hat" line of clothing - all the rage in Paris this season

But seriously, proximity suits are SOP for aircraft incidents, although probably a little overkill for this op.

I suspect the gasses produced from the friction generated by the action of the chain saw (to say nothing of the fine fragments) on that 3/4 inch plastic (polycarbonate? lexan? unobtanium?) canopy would qualify as hazardous materials.

Man, I hope the pilot had to spend 40 hours writing a proposal to justify the spending of $182,000 taxpayers money. That is about the time it takes me to propose research projects that are sometimes smaller than this, and can fund graduate students for a few years...

Yeah, when that pilot renegotiates the USAF plexiglass contract, I sure hope he gets a better deal this time.

Yeah, that would be good. I bet it costs more than $182k to put that plane back together after an ejection...

So the pilot gets a red ball (malfunction light) on the canopy not locking. So he keeps cycling the lock until it locks in the down position. Doh!

That's some thick plexiglass:

Nice mess in the cockpit:
