Personally I do not like the Hepco type of bags but thats me. The price is good and the bike looks descent. Would ask for some more pictures to check it out. ![]()

I agree with Joe. That's more than a thousand miles a month. On a bike in the Bay Area.
Are you sure this isn't a courier bike? A thou a month of THOSE miles would be like double normal miles. Personally, I'd pass.

Too much mileage, IMHO.
On the other hand, the GS is the only "new" BMW I'd own these days.

That's a crap deal... keep looking. You can do much better. Good choice of bike, though!

That's about 3-4K in extras, not including the factory ABS. I doubt this bike would be used as a courier and 31K is not that many miles. I also believe the bike would still be under the factory warranty. I'd be most concerned with any damage, the smoothness of the motor and the repair/maint. records. GOTO: ADVRider.com's GSPOT forum or their FLEA MARKET section to learn more about prices and equipment of the GS. At $9500 for the asking price, I'd assume you could talk him down to arount 9K, you'd be getting a great deal. BTW, I ride on aveage 1k per month here in the icy midwest, it'd be around 2K/month if I lived in Cali...

Looks like rack mount equipment strapped to the back of the bike. Is that standard BMW issue?

I commute a lot on bikes. But I have quite a few (>18, <22) to spread the miles around on. My commute is Las Vegas to Los Angeles, or Redondo to Van Nuys. My monthly miles total can be around 1500ish.
I have two bikes with what I call highish miles. Both the BMW's. One, an '89 K100RS has 91K. The other, an '85 K100RT has 45K. I guess what I am saying is that for a BMW, those are not high miles. I'd want to know how those miles got there in such a short time. I know what 1500 miles a month does to a bike. You are changing oil and filters every two months; fairly intensive service. As long as the maint is done, not a prob. BMW filters are expensive, he should have the receipts. I do. I do all of my own maint. Come by my hangar, you'll see I have the tools and the place. You should see that the seller has the same... or the receipts.

Other than the miles, the up-grades or add-ons look to be done by someone that has somewhat of a clue (or a salesman that had a clue).
I have 6200 miles on my 2004 GS, but don't ride it as much as I would like. I would say if all of the maint. has been done its definitly worth looking at. Bill |

thank you everyone for the tips. i contacted the seller. he used the bike for traveling the globe. he said he is selling to get a lighter bike because he wants to explore even more remote areas. a KTM640. he said he did most of the maint himself, when it was in town. he has paperwork for stuff done on the road. i will look at it.

Don't be put off if he's done the maint himself, those are very easy bikes to work on. Sounds like a decent deal to me. If I were in the market for a GS, even at full asking price I'd think it a good deal...
