License plates????

What's the deal with blanking out the plate when people post a picture. I put duck tape over mine and forgot to take it off and cops stopped me and now I'm in big trouble. Ha Ha!!!!!!!

People can get all kinds of info from you license plate. I've blanked out mine most of the time. But you don't have to use duct tape, that is just too funny!! Never heard of that before. Anyways, take your pic and when you get it on your computer just cut out your plate or draw over it using a photo editor program. IE paintbrush.

I'll bet more than one car theft was helped by posting a plate on the internet.

I don't understand any of this. I drive around all day, every day with my plate visible. But on the *INTERNET* a thief might see it.

ummm, OK.

My thoughts exactly, perhaps this is a conservative conspiracy or maybe a liberal conspiracy.

I'm still waiting for a logical explanation. Does anyone have one???

Fear of actually being identified through public records? (license plate belongs to an individual, right?)

Well put. Maybe they're afraid someone will virtually steal their cars.

I was actually thinking more along the lines of identity theft. I would think it's a TON easier for some computer geek to sit at home and surf around for a plate number instead of driving around for something. Then they find out your info and somehow use this information to gather more information until they are able to buy stuff on your credit. I wouldn't think they are driving around trying to write down numbers to scam later with. They could but I don't think it is as likely as just surfing the net. Either way identity theft is on the rise.

If you drive your car 3-5000 miles a year only a few people are really going to see it or pay attention to it. You post it on-line thousands if not millions could see it. All I'm saying is there is a lot higher chance on-line for someone to steal your id...

Maybe I'm just paranoid. But why chance it?

You don't need the license plate to find someone.

When doing my 3.6 swap I took a couple pics of the engine removal from the truck, and the P-car out behind my garage. The next weekend a fellow Pelicanhead showed up at my garage. He said he recognized the area from my pic (he walked to school by my house) and wanted to drop by to see the swap.
