Bumping this ver, very old thread...
I actually drove one of these today. A friends 2008 with just over 100k on the clock.
Anybody here have one? From the seat of the pants Dyno, about as fast as an air cooled 3.6.
He's had no real problems...yet. The fit and finish hasn't held up
Incredibly well but nothing is falling off of it. What would you expect for the $...?
He claims to have skinned more than a few WRX's. Anybody here have this or the Neon version?

I'd be asking why was the kid out driving and what were his parent's thinking letting him loose unsupervised out on a public road

Old . . . but a goodie! I happen to have a 2008 BMW E92 M3, the year it was introduced. Has 414 hp from a V8 that spins to 8250 rpm. In 2008 it was absurdly fast. Today, next to some of the new cars I've been in (various GT3s, Nissan GTRs, and the new M3/M4s) my car feels kinda . . . slow. Ish.

But that naturally aspirated V8 absolutely rocks, and it will, in any event, keep up with traffic.

I felt the same about my E46 M3. It took so much work to keep up with any newer turbo BMW on a track . . . I was at 10/10ths all the time. My M2 is effortlessly faster at my local track in stock form.

A well put together package that has excellent handling, excellent braking, solid road manners and of course the 6.1L Hemi w/420 hp/tq that makes it launch like a funny car and with the 4 pot brembos stop it in 120ft . It is rock solid at 90 and will get to 150+ in the blink of an eye - all with no drama. A very settled, solid vehicle for it's size.

I have since sold my 01 M5 (as of today) due to these very facts. I don't need 2 uber fast sedans. The Jeep is also just plain better at all these things over the M5. With the AWD you can launch ths thing and get consistent 0-60 times. With the traction control out of the picture my g-tech turns in repeatable times of 4.31, 4.26, 4.30 - this was on a wet road also. A few simple exhaust mods, CAI, chip that will bring another 25-30 RWHP on the dyno - sub 4 seconds runs are possible. The motor's bottom end is good for 600hp so bolt on a SC for 7k and launch yourself into next week - Read - Viper quick. 7k mods for my 911? We all know what that gets you.

Price, and performance...made in the USA.

I have my 911 if I feel like rowing gears or listening to a flat 6 wail.

It is a great package that is evident by the SRT eningeers doing some solid work.

Just my 02.

Jeff - this exactly! We have an '07 SRT8 GC that does everything so well I can't ever think of replacing it. I've done few basic bolt ons including custom ECM tune, the trans now has AMG solenoid and Kevlar clutches. People of all generations are amazed how fast it is from the dig.

When I read that, I think that the Hell cat is so far out in front that once it got to a turn line of sight was lost.

I rode my bike to Vegas and back this past weekend. The route is largely through very barren desert with minimal traffic and zero police presence. I came across several of the cars mentioned in this thread that wanted to race me or tried to outrun me when a passing zone opened up. I easily trounced all of them. My bike cost $8k and is the cheapest thrill you can have on the road. I have no desire for a fast car again. The bike does it for me.

It might be out in front but at the first turn it will be off the road.

They are no joke, fast in a 1/4 mile drag race. Look up the definition of "one trick pony" and it is a photo of the Hellcat.

Actually, the widebody will hold its own in the corners. It still isn't a track rat, but the brakes will hold up all day, the engine won't heat soak (looking at you GM) and has decent grip now.

That's why buying a car based on speed alone is stupid. Your chasing your tail. Technology moves on. Fast cars become slow and racing on the street is just dumb.
There are just so many factors other than speed. I want it to be a car that I feel the need to turn around and look at when walking away. Some uniqueness (within reason). The Sound of the engine, will I drive with the radio off more than on. Drive comfort and performance balance. Can the car get out of it's own way and still be enjoyed on date night with the spouse.
