Its sickening how fast modern cars are..Dodge Caliber SRT4 for example

How can Dodge do this....300hp and 260ft.lbs of torque in a hatchback....for less than $20G

0-60mp/h in 5.5secs...its running a much improved SRT4 engine over the now defunct Neon...all aluminum head AND block....

I bet this thing will easily make 400hp with bolts-ons...makes me sick how these new cars are so damn quick (and in this case cheap). Damn technology!

At least it looks better than the YUK Neon too...would never buy one but still impressive.

That sickening fact has made me extremely careful provoking fellow drivers. Most any boring looking new sedan would smoke my poor Carrera. And I´ll be damned if I´d give them the satisfaction of feeling faster than a Porsche. Bad for business. Bad hair day. Bad for copulation frequency.

FrayAdjacent911 04-13-2006 04:57 PM

Yep, I always responded to guys with SRT-4s that came into the Tiburon forums I frequent:

The SRT-4 is proof that you can't polish a turd, but apparently, you can make it go real fast!

onewhippedpuppy 04-13-2006 06:21 PM

Now if they could make it pretty, they'd really have something.

legion 04-13-2006 06:24 PM

Are these the cars my generation is going to be paying six figures for when our "hydraulics" stop working? I hope not.

fastpat 04-13-2006 07:42 PM

It's still not a Porsche.

masraum 04-13-2006 07:45 PM

I'm sure it's a functional, practical little hatchback as far as room and carrying things, but it's damn ugly.

I have D-E-S-T-R-O-Y-E-D SRT-4's in races in my RX-7. One guy, after repeatedly revving his engine at me caught a light next to me in my RX-7. He asked if I knew what his car was, like I was supposed to cower in fear. I told him it was an SRT-4 then proceeded to tear his headlights out of their mounts.

Cocky kids. They might be able to beat some cars on the road but, every once in a while they meet a REAL sleeper. They will never understand.

BTW- the last time this accorued was 2 years ago. Since then Florida has passed laws that will ruin your life if you play like that on the street anymore. I keep it on the track.... well I dod mess with an 300M Hemi a few months back in the SC. But that doesnt count. I was in a hurry and he was trying to keep up. ;)

The same way Porsche did this...150 hp and 168ft.lbs of torque in a coupe...for these days less than $10G

0-60mph in 5.9 seconds...

...in 1974.

...which was thirty-two years ago...

Moneyguy1 04-13-2006 09:56 PM

Why is that?

OMG...A technical question........

Sonic dB 04-13-2006 11:09 PM

For whatever reason, these punks driving the SRTs and their ilk...with the fart can muffler and hopped up ugly spoilers...always try to race me when Im in my 993. Every time.

cantdrv55 04-13-2006 11:15 PM

Shoot, if those guys tried to race me, they'll win.

Your RX7 doesn't count, 400HP and 2500 lbs would do a number on most cars on this board.

I agree that a lot of these kids don't know $hit about cars though, they're just into the whole "tuning" culture. Fast & Furious, Hot Import Nights, all that gay crap. He probably figured since you didn't have a 2 foot wing on the back and stickers all over that your car was slow.

kqw 04-14-2006 04:35 AM

Domestic manufacturers are again trying to catch up and get a piece of the "Tuner" market that kids have latched onto with their Mazda's, Honda's, Toyota's and Subaru's... etc.

Oh Haha 04-14-2006 05:38 AM

I was next to a Caliber(base model) the other day in my Vibe. They are the same size. I like the car, actually. I think it will be a good seller for the company. Maybe GM should take a peek at what the Germans are doing over in Auburn Hills.
(I'm waitin' on the SRT-minivan!!!!!!)

I had a youg'un try that when I was driving my wife's 540i wagon. Although it's 4000 pounds or so, with the VANOS intake cam and sport package, it's quite formidable when you punch the skinny pedal. This guy was in a Camaro, maybe 10 years old. It was tempting to suck his doors off.

The problem stems from her car being both a BMW and red I suppose.

Rikao4 04-14-2006 06:13 AM

And when all is said and done..they are not 'Porsche ' not now, not 10 years from now. She's 23 years old turns my heart and head every day,
and from the looks she gets from others..lust is still in the air.

While not every car in the SRT lineup is great to look at they are some solid performers. The Jeep SRT8 is actually one of the better vehicles I have driven in a long time.

A well put together package that has excellent handling, excellent braking, solid road manners and of course the 6.1L Hemi w/420 hp/tq that makes it launch like a funny car and with the 4 pot brembos stop it in 120ft . It is rock solid at 90 and will get to 150+ in the blink of an eye - all with no drama. A very settled, solid vehicle for it's size.

I have since sold my 01 M5 (as of today) due to these very facts. I don't need 2 uber fast sedans. The Jeep is also just plain better at all these things over the M5. With the AWD you can launch ths thing and get consistent 0-60 times. With the traction control out of the picture my g-tech turns in repeatable times of 4.31, 4.26, 4.30 - this was on a wet road also. A few simple exhaust mods, CAI, chip that will bring another 25-30 RWHP on the dyno - sub 4 seconds runs are possible. The motor's bottom end is good for 600hp so bolt on a SC for 7k and launch yourself into next week - Read - Viper quick. 7k mods for my 911? We all know what that gets you.

Price, and performance...made in the USA.

I have my 911 if I feel like rowing gears or listening to a flat 6 wail.

It is a great package that is evident by the SRT eningeers doing some solid work.

Just my 02.

You can't take away from the engineering that goes into them, they all put down impressive numbers, for a relatively cheap price. None really appeal to me, but I wouldn't take one on at a stop light either.

pwd72s 04-14-2006 08:02 AM

I'm waiting for the Challenger to arrive in...when? 2008? With a 425 horse Hemi, combined with mercedes designed IRS, I think it'll handle a then 3 decades old 911SC. But hell, that's nothing to brag about...my old '72 911 can handle a 911SC, assuming both are stock.
